| Devin Townsend – Funeral Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
Taken from a recent interview on the Metal Hammer site: "But the most stirring songs on Ocean Machine are those that confront that cruel plane of existence head on. Life, a sonically uplifting rumination on the preciousness of existence, and Funeral, a hymn-like address punctuated with desperate cries, were written following the death of 16-year-old schoolmate Jesse Cadman. On the evening of October 18, 1992, he was senselessly stabbed. “He was killed walking home by a group of kids that wanted his hat,” says Devin quietly. Though Devin and Jesse weren’t close, Devin was good friends with Jesse’s sister. He also played in local band Grey Skies, of which Jesse was a fan. When it came to organising his funeral, the Cadmans asked Devin to speak in church – something that left an indelible impact on him. “I hadn’t experienced death in a tangible way prior to that, so when we went to the funeral and I had to speak, I remember I hadn’t anticipated they were gonna bring the body out, and I just panicked,” he says. “I couldn’t cope with it, and I wasn’t alone in that, either. It was a real heavy time for a lot of people, because it was our first experience with that sort of thing, and it was senseless. It affected my teen years profoundly.” Jesse’s parents became involved in youth work and politics, and Devin is moved to learn that his mum, Dona Cadman, has publicly spoken alongside the mother of her son’s killer. “It’s a testament to the parts of the human condition that are worth fighting for,” he says." http://teamrock.com/feature/2017-03-17/the-story-behind-devin-townsend-ocean-machine |

| Opeth – Eternal Rains Will Come Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| A while ago I read that Mike got divorced a few years ago, which for me put this album in a whole other perspective (especially Faith in Others). In that sense this song feels like it describes the realisation that their marriage did not work anymore and they had to end it. | |
| America – I Need You Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| @[Salohcin8:6831] "I need you" well, obviously it's a love song haha | |

jumaman, I think that line refers to a form of oppresion, rather than sex. You perv! :P |

| Korpiklaani – Happy Little Boozer Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| About getting drunk. One of many great Korpiklaani songs to drink and party to. | |
| Strapping Young Lad – Polyphony Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| And I think Dev's relationship with SYL in particular. | |
| Devin Townsend – Kawaii Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
The way I interpreted it just now when listening to it, was that it is about the arrival of his child. The part about freedom and losing their world, is how he and his wife lose their freedom as a child obviously takes all your attention and time. The Kawaii part is about the child itself, as kawaii can mean cute or something in that vein in Japanese, and well, a child is such a sweet thing (as long as it's not crying and screaming like crazy :P ). The arrival, new arrival, arrive safe part speaks for itself I think. The child is coming soon, and he wants the birth to go well. Another thing that strikes me about Ghost, is how some of the songs, like this one for example (but especially Feather), sound like they could be lullabies you sing to your young kids, so that would be fitting. |

Good interpretations thus far. I listened to this song today, and this interpretation came unto me: Loving a girl you didn't fall for at first, but now you really have a big crush on, and you wonder if she already has someone or if she feels the same way. And just thinking of her and that. Relatable at this moment. |

| I think the same thing. | |
| Weezer – Cold Dark World Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Rivers wrote the lyrics, but Scott wrote the music. | |
| Anathema – Internal Landscapes Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Although I don't believe in the divine or supernatural, this sounds like a truly beautiful thing to experience. I'd rather not though, since there's a big chance of dying.. | |

| Everything alright, freetobeme? Something you want to talk about? | |
| Anathema – A Dying Wish Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Echonia is most likely Echo in Greek mythology, look it up. The song itself is about something that also resembles the myth in some way. I think in the song, the dude's love has died, and it's his fault, so he cries and regrets it the rest of his life, and his last wish could be to reverse his mistake, and that would bring him peace. This slightly resembles the myth, since because of Echo's curse her heart was broken by Narcissus, and for the rest of her life she repeats his last words, and there were she wept and perished only that sound could be heard again. Also, Narcissus gets a curse, namely that could never love someone again except for his reflection, and that was impossible, and so he wept and perished too. |

| Looking at these lyrics, and knowing Anathema, I most definitely think this is NOT about sex.. | |
| Anathema – Regret Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Now, for a more personal interpretation of this song, since I feel I can really relate to it. Prepare for a lot of drama :P For almost all of my time at high school (which has now come to an end) I've been in love with a certain girl. I sometimes managed to get over it, but it always came back. I used to be quite an insecure socially awkward dude back then, so contact was hard for me sometimes. And now, I feel as if there were certain signs or opportunities back then, but I didn't do anything with them then. That's the regret I still cope with and still comes back to me a lot. But, like it is said in the end of the song, "the tide has turned", an opportunity has arisen, so there still is a chance. But until I can take this opportunity, and the possible opportunity that opportunity presents (opportunityception hehe), I still have to live with regret, and maybe even longer if that opportunity won't work. There, had to spit that out, feels like an appointment with a psychologist, eh? :P |

| Anathema – Regret Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| It's about having done something to someone or yourself which involves someone else, that you regret and can't stop regretting. The memories of it still haunt you. But at the end of the song, it is said that the future is not set, and you can still have a chance in the future, but you must still cope with (that) regret (of the past). | |

Hm, I swear I posted a comment on this song before, but there are no comments here at all. Will post my interpretation later if this comment stays here, test test. Anyhoo, beautiful song for sure. |

| His loved one has passed away, and he has to move on. He will, but he will never forget his loved one, and will keep loving this person. | |

| Damnit, I voted your comment up, but meant to vote it down. Oh, well. | |
| Lamb of God – King Me Lyrics | 13 years ago |

Quote from the loudwire interview mentioned below me: "So that’s what that song is kind of about, just taking a look at now and trying to make now better no matter what’s going on or no matter what’s gone." |

| Ash – War With Me Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This song is clearly about the girlfriend/wife who only looks at her own problems, and ignores the boyfriend/husband and abreacts her anger at him, which causes some relationship problems. | |
| Ash – I started a Fire Lyrics | 13 years ago |

>"This song has a soaring vocal in which Tim really pushes his voice all the way. It starts of with just vocals and a lone guitar before the band really slams in and it's pretty rocking in a similar way to a Foo's track. The verse melody has something Dylan-esque to it which is kinda cool too. We initially thought it was just a cool rocking riff but once Tim nailed the vocals on the demo we knew it was a contender. Lyrically about becoming obsessed by someone who's out of reach. This ones currently being thought off as a potential album opener... looking forward to playing this live. Originally titled 'Girl Who Can't Be Owned'" >"Lyrically about becoming obsessed by someone who's out of reach." |

Hm, rechtenfleck, I think the interpretation of a Führer and all that is metaphoric in itself. Till said in the making of of Made in Germany what's it about, but I can't quite remember, something about continueing.. You should all watch it yourselfs. :) |

| Porcupine Tree – The Incident Lyrics | 15 years ago |

"When the world has gone to seed you're so detached" Dunno if this line is correct, but I always heard it like : "When the world has gone to see your soul detached" DUnno if it's right, but it does sound more awesome imo. |
