| Iron Maiden – The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| If I had to say anything and put a tack: I'd think it was about Steve... Eddie may be the Mascot, but he is the backbone of the band. We'll never know how they operate internally, but I can guess... It makes me giggle. | |

I think this song is about reincarnation and war, or the reincarnation of soldiers in general. Let me tell you 'bout my life, Let me tell you 'bout my dreams, Let me tell you 'bout the thing that happen, all is real to me. Let me tell you of my hope, of my need to reach the sky, Let me take you on an awkward journey, let me tell you why. Let me tell you why - The narrator is explaining his experience in a past life in which he re-lives in his dreams. "Why should these curses be laid upon me, I won't be forgiven 'til I can break free, What did I do to deserve all this guilt, Pay for my sins, for the sale of my soul." "Demons are trapped all inside my head, My hopes of god, reach for heaven from hell, My sins are many, my guilt is too heavy, The question of knowing of how then what I know?" "I'm able to see things, things that I don't wanna see, The lies of a thousand souls weigh heavy down on me." - The narrator doesn't understand why his curse of reincarnation is being laid upon him again: he has died prematurely before and he will die again. He doesn't understand why he has to keep dying, reliving the previous death and in turn die again in this life. He could have possibly been an officer or commander in a past life as the lyrics state "The lies of a thousand souls weigh heavy down on me." So 1000 men; he had some intricate role to play with their death. As the grave states 1939 (and someone else mentioned in a comment) was the date of the day war was declared on Germany by Britain. "I know they're crying for help reaching out The burden of them will take me down as well The sin of a thousand souls knocked out in vain Reincarnation of me live again." Someone to save me, Something to save me from myself To bring salvation To exorcise this hell Someone to save me, Something to save me from myself To bring Salvation To exorcise this hell Something to save me from my hell Our destination away from this nightmare Someone to save me Something to save me from myself To bring salvation To exorcise this hell - He is foreseeing the future; the thousands of new soldiers that are about to die in the new war. He is reincarnated in his new life to his old position as officer/commander and will again have to send what he sees to be more men to their deaths; including what could be his own. |

I'm gonna agree with trapezoid on some of this. The intro into the song is about the unborn child and innocence. An unborn child is a pure thing; not yet tainted by the corruption of the world. The child is born, or "coming home." "We're a ship without a storm The cold without the warm Light inside the darkness that it needs, yeah We're a laugh without a tear The hope without the fear We are coming - home" We're off to the witch. I agree with trapezoid, the witch means the world or the state of. Dio is saying the world is a sketchy place and you might not make it out alive but the journey is completely worth the time and effort. Rock on! We're off to the witch We may never never never come home But the magic that we'll feel Is worth a lifetime The next verse is a religious reference IMO. "We're all born upon the cross" could (and I think) is a religious reference. Jesus, God, and Christ are everywhere and constantly being shoved down our throats. You can release yourself, but the only place to go is Hell, so says the "Christians." We're all born upon the cross The throw before the toss You can release yourself But the only way is down The rest of the song starting with "We don't come alone" reinforces the fact that we aren't by ourselves. There are others out there that think and act such as we do. We don't come alone We are fire we are stone We're the hand that writes Then quickly moves away We'll know for the first time If we're evil or divine We're the last in line We're the last in line Two eyes from the east It's the angel or the beast And the answer lies between The good and bad We're the Last in Line; The Last to Die. The last to find out the truth for ourselves. What happens after death. |
