I think the song is very specifically about dealing with the new found pressure/tension/anxiety of becoming a rock star. "Life's the same, except for my shoes" is him trying to convince himself that he's the same person he always was except that he can afford an expensive pair of shoes now. But of course, he's not. He's on the verge of a nervous breakdown trying to deal with all of it. |

I can shed a little light on what the lyrics mean. The number eighty-eight stands for Heil Hitler as the letter 'H' is the eighth letter of the alphabet. This makes the line "Why are all the white people filled with hate?" make a little more sense. Maybe the song is making fun of white supremacist punk rock bands. I dunno. |
