| Ten Years After – I'd Love to Change the World Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Now that you mention how the lyrics tie in with the "...but I don't know what to do," I actually agree it's mocking. | |

| I don't think it's mocking. I think it's manufactured. | |

| I agree, that would make a lot of sense. I think that this EP makes up for Good News... and Dashboard though. It reminds me a lot of The Lonesome Crowded West. | |

| Modest Mouse – Autumn Beds Lyrics | 11 years ago |

For one please, this song does not say anything specifically about religion. Now that's out of the way, it sounds to me like it's about getting kicked out and condemned by someone, but moving on anyway. I think autumn bed is a metaphor for a really comfortable but temporary situation. Winter comes, things get difficult, and for the things you've done wrong you're kicked from your bed. Maybe it's parents, a partner, or a friend. You both realize they pulled the welcome mat out for you too many times, and they hit you with all the things you're guilty for until you're numb. At the end of the day, you just have to take it in stride and accept it as a normal part of life, making mistakes and getting kicked out. Singing would be one way to do that I guess. I wonder if this song is about something he went through personally. |

| Tool – Sober Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I agree that this song is probably just about what the lyrics say. They're pretty deep feelings in themseleves, and I don't think they really have a lot to do with religion at all. Every time a biblical figure is mentioned, everyone makes the entire song about it. It's just about a sad man, maybe even himself or an exaggeration of himself. He has a shadow (drug addiction, mental disorder, bad history) that follows behind him and helps him behave in a way many would consider immoral. "Jesus won't you fucking whistle!?" sounds like him calling out to Jesus (either literal Jesus, or archaic morality systems), saying, "How is this allowed to be?" "Something but the past and done," could be a rib shot at Christians, or just him saying that something needs to change in general. The part about not wanting to be Sober is obviously a really extreme regret about what has happened, and how he would drink and sleep forever were it possible. That's why I don't think this song is about drug addiction. I know exactly what he's saying and i'm "sober" most the time. I had a friend who slept fifteen hours a day and drank when he was awake. I don't think he had a physical dependency, rather he was just running from the past. (He has since accepted it, by the way.) The following self-depreciating statements are probably brought on by feelings that you've dragged somebody down. Unfortunately some of us are flawed to the point we can bring others down, and here he's complaining about other's persecution and the persecution done by himself. Unfortunately, I can relate to the "trust me" part. Many people are optimistic on a regular basis and can't see when someone is spiraling down, so every mistake you make wounds them, and you try to say, "Just don't have faith in me." He closes on, "I want what I want," because he's human and struggling with the fact, in that time period, that he only has the strength to satisfy himself and no one else. That's my interpretation. |

| Nine Inch Nails – I Would for You Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
This song seems to be about an encounter with a woman who says, "I love you." He says, "What a pathetic string of words," and takes her into his room which is like a creepy shrine to his past love, then beings to describe what happened. It's not clear if the statement, "If I could be somebody else," is referring to his current girl or the old one, which may be intentional. Like I said in another song, these lyrics are more visual than most Nine Inch Nails songs. He's using visual metaphors like asking the girl to step over the mess on the floor which was his past relationship. |

| Nine Inch Nails – Copy of A Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I think these lyrics are more theatrical and literal than most NIN songs are. He did a lot of new things on this album. Songs with similar themes (and deeper meanings) would be The Hand that Feeds and Beside You in Time, far as I know. | |

I prefer to take the literal interpretation of this song instead of the religious one. It's no surprise that it made you think of your troubles with religion, because to me it seems to be about personal issues *in general*. I also don't see much religious imagery at all. Pray and preacher were just figures of speech for certain types of behavior, not literally praying or preaching. |

| They kid is talking talking about their favorite toy.. The shelf was lonely until the child chose him and took him down from the lonely place. It's an extra-emo way of saying someone has been found. | |
| Brand New – At the Bottom Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
It seems like the song is about an old man who kept in touch with his unrequited love, possibly an ex, who became very ill and still wanted him to be at her funeral. Here's a breakdown. Wait I watched you throw out your bouquet Now I think about you everyday I'm alone now in my bed (He saw her get married, but when getting back with her became hopeless he just became more obsessed.) And there's a lake And at the bottom you'll find all our friends They don't swim cause they're all dead We never are what we intend, or invent 'Cause I make little lies and then I pull them apart Think something dark's living down in my heart (He doesn't like himself or have any authentic friends. This might also be a commentary about how if you go deep you end up dead. I'm not sure. "Little lies" and "pulling them apart" might either have to do with using people, or deluding himself from the truth.) And if I wanted to die before I got old I should've started some years ago digging that hole Well I carry this box to the proper place And when I lower it down I let it you fade away I hope that you would do this for me I'd serve you drugs on a silver plate If I thought it would help you get away I hope that you would do this for me (He chose to live to see this day and he'll take care of her at her funeral, possibly as a pall-bearer, and he hopes she would have done it for him. The silver plate is probably euthanasia.) A deer that a hunter shot in the heart Some dogs that got hit by cars All came to spill their guts (This seems to be kind of a pun mixing concepts about opening up and dying as he transitions into the next few lines...) And we spoke About the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost And which songs we had loved the most And then we all turned to dirt And dust Some men die under the mountain just looking for gold Some die looking for a hand to hold (Here this part is pretty self-explanatory. Looking for wealth as opposed to companionship might have some deeper meaning, like if you don't find the wealth you'll die alone as well. I'm not sure.) Well I carry this box to its proper place And when I lower it down I let you fade away I know that you would do this for me I'd serve you drugs on a silver plate If I thought it would help you get away I hope that you would do this for me (Repeats.) I'm slowly bringing you down from the Heavenly gates Now I'm drowning in the flood I made Well explain myself to me on the other side I'll watch from Heaven when I die (I'm not sure about this part, but it seems to be a really self-important spiel about what it may be like to watch him from heaven. He's kind of saying, "I don't know either. Maybe we'll figure it out when we get there [possibly transcending time].") Well I carry this box to the proper place And when I lower it down I let you fade away I know that you would do this for me I'd serve you drugs on a silver plate If I thought it would help you get away I hope that you would do this for me (Repeats.) |

| Brand New – Bed Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| The song is literally about a bad break-up. Pretty general comments like "Your sister was a spy," and "Wish we could have had a better goodbye." He doesn't burn her. The vapor is a flame (love) going out. He's just sitting at home sad. Most likely, the part about her being dead is figurative too, and him laying her to bed is himself accepting that it's over. | |
| Devotchka – How It Ends Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| This song really seems to be about dying and going to heaven. | |
| Silversun Pickups – There's No Secrets This Year Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I'm not sure about the context he is saying any of this in, but I'll definitely argue it isn't a one night stand. It obviously has more depth to it that we could just pick up on. Swoon is obviously a metaphor for a phase in her life (or rather web of lies) that he has become aware of, and not a literal moment, based on remorse in his voice. Nobody gets remorseful over literal swooning. Assuming by the condescending tone, he is angry and confused by her lies, and the supposed truths he's found out are actually from an outside standpoint and therefor not very comprehensive. His stuff is usually confident, although I didn't listen to Pikul, but beneath the surface this seems like a denial of how hurt he is. |
