| Kris Kristofferson – This Old Road Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I've been a fan of Kris Kristofferson for over 30 years and I can tell you he's only getting better. This song is amazingly deep. It's an introverted look into his own life in my opinion. Probably saw his own face on the cover of an album and came up with the lyrics in 10 minutes. For me, I look at a picture of my wife when she was 17 or so and remember all the times we've had together and since. "Smiling ain't so easy now, Some are coming true..." Once your dreams come true you realize that it's not exactly what you thought it was going to be. "But I guess you count your blessings with the problems, That you're dealing with today..." Our kids have grown up and though they're not perfect you then God they're as good as they are. Flaws and all. "Looking at a looking glass, Running out of time, On a face you used to know." I'm fifty, and singing Kris's songs and I can't get those lyrics out without a lump in my throat. Where has it all gone? The youth, the strength, the energy. "Traces of a future lost, In between the lines..." We all make choices and the hardest ones to live with are the ones we didn't make. "Thinking of the faces in the window, That you passed along the way, Or the last thing you believed in." It's all about faith. In ourselves, in others, in God. I have come a long way down this old road...I hope there's alot more... |
