| Dar Williams – The Tide Falls Away Lyrics | 2 years ago |

This song has a unique meaning for me which I'm certain was not the intended meaning...but there may be some paralells. I was actually hoping to get some ideas here but no comments yet. It's a little disappointing to me that the words are not completely accurate here or on many other lyrics sites. Guessing the meanings of songs is hard enough without getting the words wrong. |

| Agnes Obel – The Curse Lyrics | 6 years ago |
|
First... (taken from above...) Agnes Obel: "We apply so much symbolic meaning to things. Humans do that all the time, it’s like the curse of being a human but also a blessing because a lot of beautiful things come out of it." I believe that is so true...and here is the meaning I apply to the song...It's like a musical meditation for me: the "Curse" would be the human ego's tendency toward fear and/or greed and in the context of this song, I like to think of the "Curse" as those who've become the most powerful in this world....fearful themselves of the potential "chaos" that could come from people being truly free.... but possessing the knowledge to psychologically manipulate the fear & hopes of the masses through promises of "happiness by consumption".... ("to live unlike before")...in order to maintain control. (The curse ruled from the underground) Happening covertly..under the radar...or under the conscious awareness, of the masses. (And their hope grew with a hunger to live unlike before)....illustrating how easy it is to exert control via the hopes of the human race, with promises of a "better life" through things such as ...Consumerism...Autonomous vehicles...genetic engineering...etc..etc... all with their own "shadow sides" that we generally don't pay anywhere near enough attention to. ("Tell me now of the very souls that look alike, look alike") Ok! Don't mind if I do! :) ....the false construct of the "reality" that's fed to the masses...and then the masses, in turn, feeding and reinforcing this same "reality" to each other, perpetuates the cycle, resulting in the majority of us agreeing on and believing we know what "success" is......which then triggers a need in everyone to live up to that false image....which, in turn, makes everyone "look alike"....while striving to be that "picture of success" ("Do you know the stranglehold covering their eyes?") Yes...I believe I do... ...and while the interpretation I paint here may seem "dark"...I believe it's the very "seeing" of the dark, which makes it possible to experience the light....which IS a beautiful thing ("a blessing in disguise") Just love this song...as I stated above....as a meditation. Helps to keep me grounded in a more expansive/higher reality. |

| Cosmo Sheldrake – Come Along Lyrics | 6 years ago |
| I first heard this song a couple of days ago...but it was the Pentatonix version, and my first thought was "this sounds like what Terrence McKenna would describe as "the mushroom speaking". I then looked to see who wrote the song and found it was Cosmo Sheldrake, and immediately felt it was likely that he was related to Rupert Sheldrake, and quickly confirmed this with a google search. Can't help but think this lends credence to my "theory" on the meaning here, as Rupert Sheldrake and Terrence McKenna knew each other well. I just adore these lyrics and am infinitely intrigued by the idea of them being "mushroom communications" :) | |
| Paul Simon – The Obvious Child Lyrics | 7 years ago |
| I have been wondering about the meaning of this song for years. I absolutely LOVE all the drumming and just the upbeat nature of it. This may be why I find it difficult to think it's about the inevitability of death. I soooo wish I knew what "the cross is in the ballpark" line is all about. For some reason the first thing that comes to my own mind is something along the lines of....that play is one "way" of transcending this world.... | |
| The Shins – Australia Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Just one more quick comment: I just watched the official video for the first time after posting my reply here....and "I felt like I could just cry".... happy tears that is :) It just confirms what I was thinking about how this guy is wanting to help free this girl....symbolized by the freeing of the balloons. What a bunch of cutie pies/heros ;) | |

| This description gets my vote and is the way I understand the song for the most part, but like any great song (and this is definitely one of them) it can stand in for many life situations....In this case any situation in which oneis manipulated/enslaved/imprisoned/exploited...Seems to me as if this guy has managed to "crawl out" by himself.... removed his "ear covers" (and/or blinders)...and can recognize the signs in this girl that she is enslaved/manipulated/exploited in the same way and wants to encourage her/help her escape to into that FREEDOM! | |

| Yup. This what I hear in it as well. So what's up with your funny version above? Is that a joke? | |
