I do think that this song is about Jesus. I agree completely that Jesus will never forsake us, but I don't think this is about Jesus leaving, but rather, pushing Jesus away. I think Matt feels not that Jesus had forsaken him, but that Matt forsook Jesus. Also, I think the line is "I can't see you. I'M getting used to living in the midst of your perfection." I think he initially feels that Jesus had forsaken him or that someone stole him away but then he realized "There was no thief, 'cause it was ME that lost you." If you look at the song in that way, I really like the line "I guess it's up to me to find a way to get to you' because how much greater is the place where Jesus is, than in the "mess [we've] made!"

I think the last part specifically is about being too conscious of other's mistakes. It's all about humility. Sometimes we get too uptight and blame others when the mature, humble thing to do would be to "Point your finger at you; I'll point mine right back at me" regardless of who the blame should fall onto. |

I heard an interview with Aaron Morgan in which he explained exactly what this song means. He said that he had a friend who was taking a dance class. Also in the class was a girl name Maggie Mahoney who ended up being dance partner to this guy. Aaron said that this girl got really really attached to this guy. The friend then told the girl that he didn't want any deeper relationship beyond their dancing partnership. Apparently the girl then became rather mean to the guy, causing Aaron to write the song. It turns out that this song is really straight-forward. |
