I always assumed it was either simply heroin addiction (both the references to not wanting to die and the "pulling out now") OR a deliberately vague combination of that and a woman... it COULD be simply about a relationship, but there's too much darkness to be "just" about that. |

Exactly correct. It's got both the anguish of not being the one, but at the same time that not selling herself short. I don't know how many are actually capable of this sort of strength, but it is beautiful, even if it is a dream. |

I think this is most evident in the way the girl says "Don't you?" I mean, there are dark and depressed, truly world-weary people, but they are not usually desperate for people to agree with them :). It's cute, not dark. That being said, I think this is a very sympathetic and realistic portrayal of that mindset. |
