I really do wish that whoever posted this had had the decency to capitalise. It really bugs me to see such a lovely song reduced to lower case. Also, I think that the first line of the second verse is "AND think as I am thinking now." Annoyance at this representation aside, I adore this song. It always sounds to me like a girl saying goodbye to a childhood friend that she has grown apart from, in order to preserve his innocence as she is losing hers. She thinks the world of him, but she's destined to grow into a world that he wouldn't recognise, and so she's decided it would be best to end their correspondence. That's just the image it paints for me. |

"You told me that no matter where I went would be a prison, that the world is harsh; I know it is, but, it only hurts if you say "Ow."" Love that part. That was the bit that dragged the rest of the song into my head and made it stay there for weeks. |

For a start, I know for a fact that the title is Canopies and DRAPES, not grapes - I bought it off iTunes. And quite a few of these lyrics are wrong: "ANOTHER routine episode of Friends" (not "and like a", it's sort of a run through her day) "And I agree THAT Billy Joel does not rock" "I'll dream again of canopies and DRAPES" "And wake shaking IN the knowledge that the mattress holds your shape" "RUN to Jazz's house in Soho" "TAKE some time out to resuscitate my soul" "Teach the mattress to ERASE you from its folds" "Then dry my eyes and keep on MOVING 'til the motion makes me strong" |
