Anybody who's ever been in a painful breakup can relate to this song. It's very haunting, very beautiful in its own way. Seems like he did something he wouldn't apologize for and the girl left him. For all those things I've done Let you down I apologize But sorry's hard somehow Seems so strange it'd be so easy now Sorry is hard in the moment, and later it's so easy to say it, but it might be too late by then... |

Love this song... He's having an affair, but he knows it's wrong. If his girlfriend/wife/etc found out about the other woman, it would hurt her very badly, and he at least loves her enough to want to prevent that. The song is more about his wanting to end the affair. He keeps saying he will stop, but then he keeps running to her because he needs her, giving her up would hurt him very badly too. |

The song overall is a good metaphor for the internal conflicts we face every day... In the beginning of the song, the guy is in a relationship but he doesn't really feel anything for the girl - thus she's getting colder to him. Maybe he's done something he feels guilty about, or maybe he just wants to tell her that he wants to leave. But he keeps trying to make things work, the only way he knows how, and it sounds like that isn't working too well because the devil inside of him keeps telling him he should just do what he wants. He tells himself the lie that he's getting older, that as more time goes by he grows more and more distant from the relationship. The devil inside keeps telling him he needs to leave, to let her go, so he can be free. He's feeling confused, and weaker because he can't make up his mind. Finally he realizes that he can't just let her go, and decides to listen to her instead of the devil. |
