Pointless guilt? Man has spat in God's face since the Fall of Man and constantly disobeyed his wishes. Yet each time after we screw up he forgives us and loves us just the same. He went out of His way to give up His son and lifted his hand on Him and stood there in sorrow as His only Son died a horrible death just so that we can have a way to redeem ourselves even though nothing we do deserves. The guilt we feel is far from pointless.
