@[monster36604:23965] yup nice one for completing the lyrics but i dont think theyre quite right - of course ill be embarrassed if youre getting the lyrics from the sleeve notes but id always thought the kinda bridge line was: "salt for sore eyes" not 'soap for sore eyes' i can see soap kinda working with the lyrics but id always thought like, y'know rubbing salt into a wound youve got sore eyes from living in this hard life of ours and now someone is rubbing fucking salt into em KILL..... YOUR...... ...................... TELEVISION! |

ok it might be confusing cos im pretty sure the lyrics are down here wrong its something like : "Instead of crawling up the wall Why don't you open up we'll talk" (could be crawling or carving - but im certain its talk and not tall - well i hope so else my interpretation completely falls apart) cos ive always thought this song is about using hypnosis/NLP techniques to get a girl into bed! so shes just being a wallflower and the guy is trying to persuade her to 'just talk' then he tentatively suggests theres a possibility she might dance with him? of course as soon as they start talking hes using these seductive suggestion techniques on her: "I can't hear your voice, do I have a choice? (You're sinking below, I'm using my force)" and before you know it the next time he asks her to dance she's all like "You're my number one guy" and he mustve implanted some powerful NLP anchors in there cos the next time he asks for a dance hes told "You're my number one guy Number one guy Number, number, number, number, number, One, one, one, one, one guy" ok, so she's sounding keen - its ready for the next step and by the end of the song she's "ready for a fall" (nudge nudge, wink wink) and of course "ready for the floor" (you saucy little minx!!!) |

i cant think of any othe rpiece of art that so brilliantly and poetically describes and forewarns of pitfalls of living in our current technological age (with the exception of some phil k dick books) mainly hinting at digital dissociation from reality like unreal expectations ( gaining an life (as in real life - you just dont get another one so dont fool yourself you might) + skin creams that give you the facial texture of acomputer animated avatar) and changing reality (touching up photos) its like a warning that we're walking into the first matrix movie - not abducted by aliens and forced to live like that but we're doing it by choice or just lack of awareness that its happening cos we're so immersed in the technology and we're missing what is real and our place in history or our culture can i add a few of my thoughts to your awesome and thorough line by line pumpkin?: I put a rainforest in an Oxo cube! [what a great line - i think its about distilling experience into a concentrated form which still undeniably ends up being full and impressive (like an oxo cube ??!!) but in no way can be compared to experiencing the original (a rainforest) southern hemisphere by Calvin Klein [he's talking about the lunchbox in his pants - his, er nether regions down in the southern hemisphere nudge nudge wink wink! - it comes straight after the 'Chest pumped elegantly elephantine' line about breast enlargements and its saying that guys do this too or at least have the expectation hoisted on them in a similar way to ladies being exposed to photoshopped images of women that could only be achieved through surgery, hormones or digital manipulation - to test this theory, next time youre buying boxers check out the dood on the box whos modelling the calvin klien ones - ffs this guy is like unbelievably ripped - you or i are never gonna look like this dood in those pants in fact i can guarantee youre never ever going to see someone who looks like that in the flesh (ok, unless maybe you stumble into a steroid takers convention) ] btw they are really nice pants tho Watch your dorsal fin collapse! [ i just thought this was like in free willy or (supposedly) any whale kept in captivity - it makes their dorsal fin go all limp and kinda fall over meaning that we're in danger of losing some mojo that we would have if were living wild or true rather that confined and cosseted in the over cosy embrace of modern technological living soon my clock will have a minute hand [ i think thats about the upgrade culture with phones and ipods - like in the 17C when watches started to be worn and everyone pleased with themselves if theyve got a watch - then suddenly some canny swiss watchmaker tinkers with the mechanism and - look that guys watch has got an extra hand thats zooming round - jeez - hes got a minute hand!!!!....... upgrade time ;)] |

| Queen – Don't Stop Me Now Lyrics | 15 years ago |

how can anyone get confused about this song? its so obviously just about being really up for a proper mental night out - excited about it to the point of exploding it always like to imagine freddy and kenny everett (they were mates) on a night out in the song freddys saying - im soo up for a big one tonight dont bother coming if youre gonna be borign - no-ones gonna put a downer on it im going large!!! and no doubt itll involve 80s gay club grade ecstacy (as mentioned in the lyrics) and a bit of sex - but thats just by the by really - the song is about the excitement of a big fun night out freddys got planned also its not a selfish attitude of oh i wanna have a good time oh no, he wants to share the good times - so much in fact he wants to make a 'supersonic woman/man out of you' like he knows hes in an infectiously good mood and if you give him a call and come out you really are gonna have an amazing time oh ok i have got to mention the sex machine line - i dont think the song is about sex, he is being metaphorical here same as when he says hes a rocket ship on a collision course but its such a great line... "a sex machine ready to reload" i like it cos male sexual imagery is so often portrayed at aiming towards orgasm as a final goal here he's using the metaphor of a sex machine thats already reached climax - and is now gearing up to go again!!!! GO FREDDY!!! - youre a f*****g legend!!!! |

| Half Man Half Biscuit – Evening Of Swing (Has Been Cancelled) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
i think this song is about armageddon i cant remember how it comes about in the bible but here it starts with someone dreaming and the rest of the song is like a modern prophesy warning - a consumer culture postmodernist Book of Revelation!!! about how its really gonna ruin the day of some jumped up middle class leisure society twats cos it means they wont be able to go to the evening of swing they had arranged with their middle class twat mates!! its a ludicrous premise for a song and yet the whole thing is somehow perfect that last verse is awesome - the idea of the party arsehole being jsut such a complete prize one, that it makes you question humanities position at the pinicle of evolution - and then his satnav turns on him too telling him to shove it while he's in desperate terror and then as its the END OF TIMES - Ezekiel has been waiting to punch dan brown in the face - hahaha |

| Lou Reed – I'm So Free Lyrics | 15 years ago |

i used to think this was autobiographical too but i had a realisation now - especially if you listen to the whole album - most of it is sorta reporting from the streets not really autobiog and i now think this song is another of lou's critiques of a subculture/stereotype its about hippies - i dont think lou really likes hippies hes ny east coast and hippies tend to be more west coast california (ive never been to usa in my life - but you know what im mean;) hes taking the piss outa hippie- types in the song its quite a well crafted funny song if looked at like this he's really ripping it going ooh look at me - im so free la de da de da da!!!!! |

| Lily Allen – The Fear Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
this is a well written song - and it gets its anti-consumerist message straight to teens - im kinda hoping thats lilys "own little mission" anyhoo about the line "I'll look at the sun and I'll look in the mirror" the first time round its obv about looking at the tabloids (The Sun and The Mirror) for self affirmation but the second time round its about that crystaline form of consumption - COCAINE "I'll look at the sun and I'll look in the mirror" can be translated as: she knows how shes living aint quite right (from the lead up to the line) but then again... when your messing with your mates + the early hours has broken into dawn (she sees the Sun stream through the window) and youre having fun getting your head down for another line of coke (off the mirror) and you see yourself and think - waaahooo im living the dream baybee!!!!!! "I'm on the right track, yeah we're on to a winner" |
