| Tegan and Sara – My Number Lyrics

To me, the 'If I gave you my number" is figurative. A number is the concrete way to communicate with someone, let them contact you freely. Essentially, give them all the tools they need to get close enough to promise to always stay. Except no matter how hard you try, everything was just too fucked up from the start. Endless wars over things already dead that you try to keep alive out of desperation. I keep running out the door after him, grab him by the hand and drag him to the shore. But if I save him from drowning, then I know he won't need me any more. And if I let him go, then I have to start from the beginning.
Go Go (please stay) go if you want I can't stop you |

| Jack's Mannequin – Drop Out - The So Unknown Lyrics

I don't think this song is about marriage at all. I think it's basically a big fuck you to society. It's funny that thisisnotanexit12 should mention LSD. I wouldn't agree that acid in itself is the so unknown, I've certainly experienced a willingness to drop out after tripping. In the first verse, he's trying to convince his girlfriend that society sucks and they should just pack their stuff and disappear. At first she's really confused because the idea of "dropping out" doesn't really exist as a plausible option. He has to show her that it doesn't have to be so scary, because they have each other, and he just wants to create a subset of the world where the two of them can exist together and do whatever they want. The chorus is all about his dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs. He feels that everyone in society is misdirected and out of control, so his best bet is just to refuse to be a part of it. He knows the empire will fall eventually, and the "new religion" is the period that will serve as a resolution. the "and we won't wake up on sunday" line is all about how once you escape society, you no longer have to play by the rules. While everyone else is praying, they can just sleep in and let the god do their work. Such a brilliant concept translated into lyrics. I hope I'm right about the meaning |

Most beautiful song on the album. Another one where I truly feel like I can understand every word. This song is about a guy thinking about an ex, the one he never should have let go. The concept of a restless dream is that it differs from a memory in the sense that a memory is in the past. Even though it seems like they've been apart for a while, he still thinks of being with this girl all the time, hence a restless dream. I think it's a song about closure; he's writing her a letter to tell her how he feels. However, I don't think he's trying to get back with her because he knows that ship has sailed "and Austin is so very far away". He just wants to let her know how much she meant to him |
