I'm surprised not many people suggested this was about death - cause that was actually the first thing I thought when I heard this song the first time. But then I was reading some of the comments and someone said that to them it's about "breaking up with someone you were never with". And that just suddenly made perfect sense. I've always loved this song, but recently I just couldn't stop and I wasn't sure why. Now I do. I'm going through exactly that - "breaking up with someone I were never with". I couldn't put it in a better way. I'm so broken-hearted, cause I only got to taste the beginning of something that could've been so good and nice and I haven't had that in such a long time. But we had to separate too early. "To think I might not see those eyes makes it so hard not to cry And as we say our last goodbyes I nearly do.." "Light up, light up As if you had a choice" "Slower, slower We don't have time for that" Those are my favourite lines...they just give me chills. |

| Train – Drops of Jupiter Lyrics | 14 years ago |

The first time I listened to this song I just really liked it and didn't even bother to try and understand the meaning. As it became one of my most played tracks, I started fantasizing on the lyrics and imagined my own meaning -- as someone has already said on here, the lyrics are pretty vague and the meaning is not explicit, and everybody can relate to it in their own way. Now I know the song was inspired by the death of the singer's mother. It all makes sense, actually, from this point of view. However, I think the beauty of this song also relies on the fact that it isn't specifically about the singer's experience: it's not a song about him, FOR him, only to him to understand. It's not like he was saying "I am suffering and none of you will ever understand". That's why I still like to think of my own meaning, the one I came up with before knowing the facts behind these lyrics, because I believe it was what the singer wanted. That said, what I think of whenever I listen to this song is traveling. After all - at least from some people's point of view - what is death if not a journey? Maybe it's because I love traveling, and my lifedream is to travel all around the world and see everything and experience anything. That's what I see when I listen to these lyrics: someone who got the chance to see everything, and it was so beautiful that even Heaven is nothing compared to it. Someone who went all the way to the moon and back, and sailed across the sun, and breathed the air on Venus and traced their way through the constellation. But it's not only about the greatness of space and the marvel of the stars; because it's the little things that make it all worth it, love, pride & deep-fried chicken, soy latte, 5-hour phone conversations, first dances... It's the story of someone who went all over the world, no, all over the Universe, to find themselves and have their mind blown, looking for something... and so he wonders, "Was it everything you wanted to find?" |

| The Perishers – Sway Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Am I the only one who thinks it the other way? Maybe it's because of what I'm going through right now... but what I think of when I listen to this (beautiful) song is a guy with a 'broken soul' that meets this girl, who helps him and 'picks the pieces up', she 'saves him when he was almost dead (probably because of another relationship - "you returned to me what others stole"). Then she begins to feel differently about him...she falls in love with him. But he 'looks at her and sees a friend', though she saved him, he only wants her as a friend and 'hopes that's what she's come to be'. So that's why he apologizes for hurting her. He loves her, and knows that he hurt her, and doesn't want to anymore, he doesn't want to 'make her sway, like he knows he's done before'. "Have you finally forgiven me?" ...forvigen him for not returning her feelings. He's careful, and wants to be sure that they are okay now, that she wants to be friends again, and if she's ready to 'get back where it all began', when they loved each other with no romantic feelings involved. Because he needs her. He needs his 'solid ground'. Of course there are lots of possible scenarios... also because the lyrics are pretty vague about the context - and that's a good thing, so that everybody can relate to it easily. Probably if my current situation wasn't the way it is I would think it differently...who knows... anyway, I love this song, it touches me. Veronica Mars ♥ |

| Lenka – We Will Not Grow Old Lyrics | 15 years ago |

All of Lenka's songs are so simple but at the same time so true. It's like she's able to exactly get at the right point with only a few words. This song is about how at the beginning of a relationship, especially between teenagers, you are confident that this one will be the person you will spend the rest of your life with, that he/she is "the one". And this happens all the time, you think that you "will never grow old" and that your two "hearts will never die". But then, at the end, she realizes that this feeling and this adolescent love will eventually end, and fade away... |

| HURTS – Better Than Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |

First thing that came up in my mind was: drugs. "Every second is a lifetime, And every minute more brings you closer to god, And you see nothing but the red lights, You let your body burn like never before" when you're on drugs you have no perception of time and space. And if they're strong they can be very dangerous, so they "bring you closer to God" (if you know what I mean). The rest of the verse is always about how you feel on drugs. "Turn away, turn away, close your eyes, you can runaway" Being on drugs makes him feel so light and free, he uninhibitedly does random things such as spinning round, with eyes closed, and running somewhere far (maybe not even for real, but just in his imagination). "It's not enough" I think that's clear. He wants more. "And it feels better than love" "Does it feel better than love?" When I first heard this line I immediately thought of Trainspotting, 1993 film about drugs and drug addicts (if someone hasn't seen it, I highly recommend to). In this movie there's a line, talking about heroin, that says that it is "better than sex". So I think the speaker's asking himself if that drug trip of his is actually better than love, with the following thought "so what is love?" cause seeing the marvellousness and awesomeness of it he probably doesn't get why people still prefer "love" to drugs. Maybe he doesn't really know what IS love? The rest of the lyrics are basically just images of his psychedelic and amazing trip. |

| The All-American Rejects – It Ends Tonight Lyrics | 15 years ago |

That would make sense. But who really cares what the song was meant to mean (if you'll excuse the pun)? If it can give people emotions, even for different reasons and meanings, then what's the big deal? People here can share their feelings and interpretations about the lyrics, no need to hate and get excited this way. peace. |
