| Thank you so much for your explanaton of this song. It fits so well with what I am going through right now with a guy at work. He has gotten under my skin and into my psyche but I have been married for many years and he is 20 years my junior. He relates to me on many levels including the subliminal and like Morrisette I am the former stoic squirming because he makes me defenseless. He is the "Uninvited" because I didn't ask for him to care about or relate to me. He just does. I have no idea if he really has an interest in me or just likes the fact that he can so powerfully sway me. At 26 he still hasn't found the right person and it makes me sad because secretly I wish it could be me but it simply is impossible. That is where Morissette and me part company because she went ahead and dived in. It only takes a nanosecond to deliberate this. I am married and that makes this other person the "Uninvited." | |

I take it as a woman who is finding a connection with someone but can't pursue it because for whatever reasons it is wrong to do so. The line, "It must be stangely exciting to watch the stoic squirm" seems to me to mean the person in question has a significant sway over her emotions and psyche. She is not able to wall that person out because as relayed in a really old song, "I've Got You Under My Skin". She is squirming because the person has rendered her defenseless and has gotten into her head. Dolly Parton relayed the same sentiment in the song; "Here You Come Again: "All you gotta do Is smile that smile And there go all my defenses Just leave it up to you And in a little while You're messin' up my mind An' fillin' up my senses" Here you come again Lookin' better than a body Has a right to An' shakin' me up so That all I really know Is here you come again An' here I go." |
