Nickelback – How You Remind Me Lyrics 13 years ago
It must've been 10 years since I first heard this song, back then I was a just a little kid who had absolutely no idea what Chad was on about I just liked the way it sounded.

Unfortunately I can relate to every single word of it now, I wish that wasn't the case but it is.

I made excuses, I was wrong, I handed her a heart worth breaking, I traded in my pride for a dysfunctional relationship. I've been down to the lowest depths of manhood. Are we having fun yet? YEAH YEAH ..(no no - the voice in the back of your head that you just refuse to listen to)

Infected Mushroom – Illuminaughty Lyrics 14 years ago
In my opinion it's a reference to any addiction although the lyrics could be taken to suggest smoking something (kissing/sparks) or simply making love.

Oasis – Little By Little Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with ZeroGenerator, this is an existential song.

We the People fight for our existence, don't claim to be perfect but we're free
we dream our dreams alone with no resistance.

We fight a futile battle to feel alive, We realise that humans are never perfect but at least we're dream freely - undisturbed - (Life could very well be a big dream, there is no way you can prove we're really alive or that individual minds even exist).

Fading like the stars we wish to be - again - we're just specs on the grand scale of things, cherry blossoms, fireworks - Stars - etc

You know I didn't mean what i just said but my god woke up on the wrong side of his bed

- he's said something he wants to take back - hence he woke up on the wrong side of his bed - since this is his dream he is referring to himself as god.

CHORUS - is simply about living your life to the fullest - with no real purpose, burning out for the sake of burning out

For humans who are imperfect true perfection is always imperfect

"the life inside your head we give to you" - life isn't real it's only inside your head

Porcupine Tree – Trains Lyrics 14 years ago
This is a very deep song indeed and I'm sure we all have our own individual interpretations of it, here's mine I think that "trains" are being used metaphorically, mainly for one's train of thought but with other allusions too.

Train set and match spied under the blind -

his train of thought has been set in motion - after seeing his "match" from under the blind

-Shiny and contoured the railway winds -
The curves of a woman's body, he's looking at her through the blind

-And I've heard the sound from my cousin's bed, The hiss of the train at the railway head-
The girl is actually his cousin, with whom he had a relationship in the past - or his cousin is having sex with the girl he wants - (interpret it however you want) - the railway head - the tunnel/station - metaphor for sex.

- Always the summers are slipping away -
First he would feel like time was slipping away, before he made his move and when he finally did and the relationship proceeded to fail he began to feel like the memories of the summers they spent together were slipping away. - Hence they're ALWAYS slipping away -

-60 Ton angel falls to the earth -
A reference to the canonical dropping of a space colony or the impact of a giant meteor - this is what she does / did to his train of thought.

-A pile of old metal, a radiant blur Scars in the country, the summer and her-
The result of this incident/breakup/unrequited love/both etc have left a radiant blur and scars in the country - (his train of the thought has gone haywire and left tracks everywhere) - THE SUMMER AND HER = he could be talking about the girl or the country or both - imo it implies the girl is his country.

-When I hear the engine pass I'm kissing you wide The hissing subsides I'm in luck-
Whenever he catches the same train of thought (starts thinking of her) - he remembers or thinks about kissing her, when the noise fades away - he manages to catch a break from his longing -hence he's in luck

When the evening reaches here, You're tying me up, I'm dying of love,It's OK
He feels like she's tied him up on her train tracks - he can't escape he can't stop thinking about her and so each time it passes over him he's dying on the inside - but since he still loves her it's OK.

Enrique Iglesias – Love To See You Cry Lyrics 14 years ago
It is a bit sadistic I suppose, but I've always loved this song, for starters its natural for us men to want to dominate women - (ever seen a bunch of animals do it you'll get the picture) sex has this animalistic flair to it and so yes when we dominate women we get a sense of satisfaction. Another thing to keep in mind is that women can be beautiful in no matter what they do, and so even the act of a woman breaking down and crying is downright sexy, I was aroused the first time I listened to a certain somebody cry - (so much so that I had to do my level best to hide my saluting sergeant). If somebody can cry in front of you it means there are no longer any boundaries between you - so Its sexy spiritual and emotional at the same time - (I hope that paints a better picture for people who call the song sadistic garbage).

Foo Fighters – Best Of You Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with what most people here are saying - its about a heartless girl who left her boyfriend in pieces - .. I am in the same position with a certain somebody and I feel like screaming " is someone getting the best the best the best the best of you! " to her face .. because I'm certain im not getting it anymore.

Poets Of The Fall – Carnival of Rust Lyrics 15 years ago
Some might think this about a relationship in the general sense of the word but to me it's about the decadent relationship we have with money and capitalism in general.

"do you breathe the name of your savoir in your hour of need" - this is referring to the saying - there are no atheists in foxholes -

Why would one taste "blame" in the name of their savior? Because this savoir is money the tool with which we indulge our consumerist urges. Why should one be blamed for wanting money? Because there are billions of people who live in poverty, pocket change to you could feed them for months hence

"don't walk away when the world is burning" - "Implication insinuation and ill will" - we ignore the state of the world because all that matters to us is being able to go out and have fun.

"its all a game" "avoiding failure" for "things we don't need" - the dog eat dog world of free market capitalism.

the chorus is about how empty the singer's life is without money - by feeding the rain he means "spend" because money makes our world go round - by spending you're throwing more money into the cycle - this might not make sense to people who haven't seen a national income diagram.

On the surface it might be about what other people above me have mentioned - but this is what I believe the song is underneath. We are left with the message

"Don't walk away when the world is burning" repeated several times

R.E.M. – Leaving New York Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is about leaving one's home town. I recently left home to go to uninversity. This Christmas was my first time going back home "on holiday" needless to say it felt really strange. It's very possible to be in love with a city or anywhere you happen to have spent a lot of time. Your family, your friends, ex lovers, people who mean a lot to you, experiences you'll never forget and the old tree you used to walk by things you used to take for granted are, all of a sudden so valuable.

"You might have laughed if I told you" - I used to curse the traffic, now I'm begging for it - I'm sure if my city was personified it would laugh

"You might have succeeded in changing me" - what your life could have been if you'd stayed.

I remember feeling left behind too, I wasn't the first to leave - she left before me and now that I'm gone too my memories of her will always remain in that polluted old city, I smell the air and I am reminded of her. We still talk but its as if we live different lives now - but back home we'll always be together.

Yoko Kanno – Gravity Lyrics 15 years ago
to me this is a song about somebody who's been separated from his homeland, or a place that means a lot to him, I can understand because I've been away from my homeland for a long time (7 years now), I'm actually moving back in a months time but it just doesn't feel real. After longing for something so much to have it actually come true is unfathomable. One starts to wonder if one is mistaken and that all one's longing has been a fabrication, is it simply because grass is always greener on the other side?

"maybe this time tomorrow the rain will cease to follow and the mist will fade into one more today"
initially this line suggests the singer thinks the rain will cease to fall and everything will go well but at the end of the line the mist fades into another "today", such is the despair felt by the writer that the thought of going back is just too much to hope for.

The writer knows full well that zero gravity exists nowhere, but the dream of returning to that sacred place and having no worries is the only thing that keeps our wayfarer going.

In the end this song describes an immense attachment to a certain place although metaphorically it could be to anything.. the last line

"i feel the gravity of it all"

in my opinion refers not only to the force of attraction but gravity in this sense (eg the gravity of a situation) can be taken to mean the scale of something.

I've been through some tough times and this song has always brought tears to my eyes because for 7 years now I've literally felt "the gravity of it all". =[
