Don Henley – The Boys of Summer Lyrics 9 years ago
There are many, many layers to this fabulous song! The ambiguity of the lyrics leave room for many meaningful interpretations. And because the lyrics are so beautifully wistful, the song helps one to heal when processing unfavorable events of their past - this is arguably my favorite song ever for this reason alone.

Yet at times, I think "The Boys of Summer" are actually The Eagles and the song is about Glenn Frey in particular. Put simply, after the band's breakup, I think Don Henley was nostalgic about the band's early days and missed his brother in music. And this song was the result of those thoughts and feelings.

The Birthday Massacre – Holiday Lyrics 9 years ago
This is the most atmospheric, melancholy, wistful song I have ever heard and how I first discovered The Birthday Massacre almost ten years ago. It captures the fear that the best of days are behind you, and that they maybe were never very good to begin with anyway; the repetitive pointlessness haunting everyday life; and the tiny inextinguishable hope that maybe, just maybe, there is still one more worthwhile adventure waiting in the future...

The Birthday Massacre – To Die For Lyrics 9 years ago
My personal take on this song is that the singer is the one who is dead and She is looking down on her Boy from the afterlife ("Look at my eyes boy. Nothing like yours now.")

Watching his life go on ("It seems that a lifetime is passing us by.")
Watching him be adorable like always ("Tighten your tie boy. You're something to die for.")
Watching him make mistakes during new experiences ("Stop wasting time boy. You're late all your life boy. They won't have the patience for someone like you.")
Watching him plan his future without her ("You're standing along boy. Waiting for dreams boy. Waiting for something to make them come true.")

She is saddened by their separation ("We'll wish that we were something more") and in death is melancholy about the impermanence of things ("But don't hold your breath now. You're just killing time" and "This is forever but it won't last long. This is a memory that fades away in neverending.")

She wants to stay connected to her Boy on Earth ("I'll try to remember. I'll try to hold on.")
She tries to communicate with her Boy beyond the grave ("Tonight you can dream boy. Imagine a whisper. If you can keep secrets, then I'll tell you mine," and "So open your eyes.")

She wishes she told him how much he meant to her before it was too late ("Though it brings me to tears now, I need you to know.")
She is afraid he may forget about her in time ("Don't ever leave boy. I'd miss you too much boy"), but knows it is better for him to move on and finish out his life on Earth without her ("Remember a promise you couldn't hold on to.")

She wasn't ready to die and is trying to stay where she can still be with him in spirit instead of moving on herself, but she feels whatever is Next calling her and it's hard to avoid the inevitable ("Your memory's fading. I'll love you forever.")
She is choosing to remain where she is until her Boy passes away too, where they can reunite in death and move on to whatever is Next together ("I'll never forget you, as long as I'm here.")

John Denver – Take Me Home, Country Roads Lyrics 15 years ago
I got the impression he was singing about how the Blue Ridge Mountains look as they appear on the horizon.

Like ylimemi above I grew up near those mountains and I know exactly what she means by “that peaceful, blue haze.”

Hope this helps :)
