i think these "different people" and their situations are describing the different parts of maxs personality and the way those different personalities cope with life. the beginning about the cats is just about the whole picture of all of the personalities. or about what society wants us to do (yellow cat invading the red cat) vs. individuals like max. or possibly about the war vs. peace, racism, violence, etc... thing that everyone is saying. im not max. irdk "i watch my yellow cat invade my red cat in the yard the feline war has raged for years so i assume it'd be too hard for me to drive my foot between them i would never risk the scratch just to prove to one or both of them a cat is just a cat" Figurative: people, including max himself, are afraid of intercepting others' fights for fear of being hurt. and he is frustrated that no one will do anything about it bkz we just ignore it and say "oh well. it will work itself out eventually" and we let it continue. "again, i watch my cousin greg watch mtv inside his home he makes fun of the hip hop videos from the couch he rides alone snug in the cushion of his cackling he forgets his living doubts he has relied on this for years you will not yank the carpet out" figurative: hes unhappy with his success (or lack thereof), so to deal with his inadequacies, he makes fun of the more successful people. its his tub of ice cream to the bad breakup he calls his life, if u wanna think about it like that. although i love max (not that that matters to him) and i think hes very successful. in my eyes at least. and the carpet is talking about how even though hes unhappy hes sort of in denial and wont do anything to change this for fear of disturbing the balance of his life. instead of risking it all to achieve more hes convinced himself hes content with how things are now so hes not going to do anything. "i watch this dude each night, same table he creates and crumples up his eyes are wide from sipping endlessly his endless coffee cup he feeds me quotes that lonely goat i watch him grazing by himself i will not stop him when he rambles i'm becoming one myself) figurative: i believe this is him seeing himself up all night watching himself write music, poems, etc... Sort of like an out of body experience. he sips the coffee to stay awake. "he creates and crumples up... he feeds me quotes" refers to writing lyrics, then not liking them so he throws them out (i know whos trash IM going through this weekend haha jkjk) "the lonely goat, i watch him grazing by himself... im becoming one myself"- again with the out of body thing. hes talking about how no one understands him and thats exactly how he feels when hes with them, so he just stays home all night writing songs. not partying like everyone else his age. prolly bkz he didnt get invited to some party or something so now he is beating himself up and feels like a loser. writing is how he copes in this portion "lou is bugged shot up with drugs he sweats this bird he hardly knows all that he wants is to see someone he respects without their clothes so like some hybrid mother/lover she'd soothe and heal his wounds and kiss those dying ears so softly that the reaper stops to swoon oh please" Figurative: this is him talking about his oedipal complex again. if u dont know what that is, its basically when a man wants someone exactly like his mother as his partner. its fairly common. he wants this mother figure to fix what he cant- himself. i just read the bands bio, and while writing ...Is A Real Boy Max was admitted to an insane asylum due to stress for a few weeks, but before that he had Zyprexa daily and when that didnt work he began substituting other drugs and that covers the part about the reaper as well. so the first part about being shot up with drugs is talking about that period in his life. it also means hes kind of walking through life dazed and confused, looking for someone who can fix him immediately, that he can respect. he doesnt want a shallow floozy, he wants something real. "i watch my neighbor's son play with his shotgun in the street i think i'll blaze all day and marvel at the MASS OF food i eat it's strange, i'm skinny when i'm standing but i'm buddha when i sit and if i'm truly so enlightened why'd i waste your time on it?" Figurative: well this could either have to do with one of his many psychotic induced episodes where he was harassing children (neighbor with a gun) and spent a half hour pouring soup by the spoonful onto the floor(crazy i know), or watching others do stupid shit and just brushing it off and rollin a j. and he tries writing songs to tell us about what we do, and what he does, and we sit here and call him genius, but we dont really get what hes trying to tell us, so he feels hes just wasting his time trying and we r wasting r time listening bkz we r too dense to understand. and the part about the food- MUNCHIES!!!!!!! "as i look back at countless crossroads and the middle where i stay right up the beaten path to boredom where the fakest fucks get laid by the faux-finest finds it's been that way god damn you, how you stay with every scummy, crummy hour of the scummy, crummy day" figurative: there are many decisions in life and he cant move from where hes at bkz he refuses to be someone hes not to get ahead. so hes just waiting it out, standing still, stagnant in time, refusing to make decisions and sell out. hes pissed that he cant get anywhere just bkz hes brutally honest and... A Real Boy. ;) haha "these are my friends this is who they have been for always these are my days this is how they stay" Figurative: this is him summing up everything he said- this is who hes always been. these personalities hav always been present and will always be there no matter what he does. and things arent guna change anytime soon with ppls ignorance. either its what i just said or theres seriously all these people in his life and hes observing what losers they are and he is, but these r at the same time, the closest "friends" he has bkz his honesty intimidates ppl and he scares them all away. ahhh. the charm of a stoners life haha |
