| Bring Me the Horizon – Chelsea Smile Lyrics

|
I didn't know amazingly hot meant over-sized, fake boobs and a caked-on face...? I'll never understand male heterosexual attraction I guess. Anyway, I think that ccaarroolliiinne is onto something. The way that Oliver is describing these feelings are very similar to those of a homosexual who is ashamed of who they are e.g.
"We all carry these things inside that no-one else can see, they hold us down like anchors, they drown us out at sea."
and...
"If I don't believe in him, why would he believe in me?"
This could be about his refusal to accept the way he is; homosexual.
Also, a lot of anti-gay people are strong Christians so all the "Repent!"s could be referring to how some Christians consider homosexuality to be a 'sin'.
Lastly, the way he says "Honestly, dear" sounds very camp to my gaydar.
p.s. This is really just wishful thinking. |

| Cannibal Corpse – Addicted To Vaginal Skin Lyrics

The only disturbing thing about Cannibal Corpse is that some people won't understand that this is art. Sure, intelligent, artsy metal heads will be like, "Awesome breakdowns, cool, gorey, messed up lyrics, great work guys!" But if they keep writing their songs with themes beyond just gore, such as paedophilia, necrophilia and rape, then they may find themselves with some creepy fans who are actually into this kind of thing. Just saying. Some people aren't smart enough to realise it's fiction. CC are taking a risk by adding those sick themes in their music. |

I think that Tonight Alive is great for what they are but they're nothing new really. It's unfair that they keep getting compared to Paramore though. Paramore has really different lyrics, riffs and less 'poppy' melodies. Also, Jenna McDougall has a less 'edgy' voice than Hayley. |

I agree with most of what you're saying, but it's not just female-fronted bands where the vocalist gets most of the attention. I mean, look at Jared Leto from 30 Seconds to Mars, Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance, Robert Smith from The Cure, Andy Sixx from Black Veil Brides, Oli Sykes from Bring Me The Horizon...it's just the way it works, no matter what the gender. Look at how many fans Escape The Fate lost when Ronnie Radke was kicked out. The vocalist is a huge part of a band, especially if they also write the lyrics and melodies. |

| The Wombats – Jump Into The Fog Lyrics

Such a deep, layered song coming from a band that once said, "If this is a rom-com, kill the director." It is definitely related to nihilism and that 'grey area' in terms of what is moral and what is immoral e.g. questions like "is it wrong to sleep with somebody simply out of curiousity or to escape from the dull format of everyday life?" It seems like a lot of songs are linked to anarchistic sub-concepts these days. Anyway, I love this song! |

| Bring Me the Horizon – Diamonds Aren't Forever Lyrics
| 14 years ago
|
It's about not giving up.
Specifically, it is common in psychological patients who suffer from depression that they feel the need to oversleep because their life brings them no excitement, zest or joy; only anxiety and obviously depression. But Oli Sykes is encouraging people to live life to the fullest hence the line, "If you think you're alive, then you're better off dead" translation: don't go through life with the hand-break on.
Throwing diamonds in the sky could possibly represent boycotting consumerism and living for the warmth of true inner happiness from within. It could also be a reference to quitting drug addictions, inspired by Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (LSD) - The Beatles. |

| Escape the Fate – There's No Sympathy for the Dead Lyrics
| 14 years ago
|
From a feminist's perspective, I interpret the message of this song to be 'take the chances that are offered to you and strive to achieve your wildest dreams, thus there's no sympathy for the dead; the ones who gave up willingly'
The line "I struck the glass it broke the bones inside my fist but I'm okay" could represent the concept of the "glass ceiling" in the workplace for women.
Also "I've found the remedy for love" and "I have the remedy to the poisonous kiss" could relate to how a woman finds cure for romantic egotism and obsession by giving her life a focus or goal that doesn't relate to maternity, domestication or marriage.
So, this obviously isn't a literal interpretation, but it is a feminist's perspective.

Me too! Wow, I never thought that anyone else would think that, cause it's not really a sad line, yet this is the line that made me cry too!
I think it's cause it emphasises how much his mom leaving affected him. It's like she's too busy to care that he's following his dreams. |

Ronnie Radke's song writing has so many levels it's amazing. He can go from writing a poppy song like "Situations" to something heavy and abstract like "My Apocalypse" then to this beautiful acoustic song. So heartfelt. I can't really relate to it, yet somehow I can. I feel empathy for him. |

If it helps, wikipedia says that many of the songs on the album "Dying Is Your Latest Fashion" have Edgar Allan Poe references.
Personally, I think Ronnie is an amazing lyricist and now that I've found out who he is inspired by, it's no wonder. He actually must be a more intelligent guy than I thought he was. Some people, like my mum, says that he can't use metaphors effectively, but then I was like "Mum! It's abstract!" Besides, it's better than anything a certain replacement lead singer could ever imagine...

Guys? Why hasn't anyone commented the raw, intense emotion present in this song, especially in the lyrics? Maria creates masterpiece after masterpiece in terms of beautiful lyrics. These are so heartfelt and this song really helped me through the death of my close friend.
In my opinion, this song is about greiving the death of a loved one and the confusing feelings we experience when this happens. I absolutely love this song. It's positive and sad at the same time; that's what I love about In This Moment - they can make someone smile and cry while still listening to the same song. |

Obviously it is about the end of the world. I think the song has deeper layers of meaning though e.g. the lines "we all fall down" is like saying, "look what kind of a world we've made so don't blame it on anyone in particular - we've all caused this to happen and now this is the consequence of what we've done."
Amazing song! I think the word 'epic' applies to this song. |

To me, this song is about the frustration and desperation of trying to let go of the past and start afresh as a pure person, which explains the reference to God and prayers (cleansing of sins etc.) I also think it is about drugs e.g."injecting me with one last kiss" and "medications".
It's such a beautiful, uplifting, yet somewhat dark song. It gives me shivers when I listen to it. I love In This Moment. I love Maria Brink forever! She's my ultimate girl-crush and a strong, confident woman. |

God Metallica are amazing! Yes, I'm a newbie to this great band - only discovered them recently. At first, I didn't see what was so great about them...but then I really LISTENED to them and now I love them! Amazing band! I can't believe Lamb Of God was supporting them in concert - in my opinion they play very different music, though they are both metal. But what is 'metal' really? Is it chromatic chords? Distortion on guitars? Guitar solos? Screaming? A lot of bands include all these things in their music and aren't considered 'metal'. Meh. Whatever. The bottom line is METALLICA ROCKS! |

grieving*
Sorry, but the emo-subculture fascinates me to no end. I've always loved alternative rock and post-hardcore - "screamo" and I've gotten into 90's and early 2000s emotive hardcore recently. I just LOVE it. It's so unique compared to a lot of music these days. I can't believe more people don't like this kind of music. The themes of these songs are so easy to relate to and the songs are very honest. Maybe they are TOO honest for some people. I adore the bands "I Hate Myself", "Embrace", "Jimmy Eat World", and of course "Sunny Day Real Estate". "Rites of Spring" are more punk in my opinion, but they still have that raw emotion in their music. Emotive Hardcore rocks! But at the same time has sweet melodies and riffs and beautiful song meanings. I don't know why bands didn't like being placed under that genre. Perhaps they didn't want to be labelled at all. And fair enough.
But you gotta admit, (this isn't related to emocore music) it's funny and hypocritical how people who dress in a certain style absolutely HATE being called any name concerning style, even though they know deep down that is the image they are trying to convey. Honestly, I don't mind being called 'emo' or 'punk' or 'scene' because I know that the image that I present does fall under these categories to some extent. e.g. I have black hair, I wear bright bows, converse, skinny jeans, dresses with lace and ballerina dress material, lots of celtic-looking rings and I wear eyeliner and I listen to that kind of music. If someone thinks I look "emo" then fine. If they want to put a label on what influences my style, then admit it; I do dress emo-ish (if that's a word). And I love dressing that way.
(By the way, when I say 'emo subculture' I'm talking about true emos, not the posers who feign self-harm and post depressing pictures of themselves on MySpace. In fact I know a girl who used to seriously cut herself, almost bone-deep, because it was the only way for her to feel anything since everyday seemed empty to her - she had a LOT of difficult situations and issues in her life. And no, she didn't wear eyeliner and black, she actually dressed in a Christina Agulera-type style because self-harm can happen to ANYONE, not specifically people who dress in the emo fashion and listen to emotive hardcore. The wannabe emos that do this turn these true victims of self-harm into a joke and it's awful.)
Wow, I have gone so far off topic. Oh well, none of my friends would be interested to hear what I have to say about this so I hope some bored teenager has gained some ounce of entertainment from reading this. Over and out. |

This song is probably about both drug addiction and greiving the death of a loved one, whether it was in a car crash or not.
By the way, this may seem like a very immature question to ask but I keep hearing this metalheads saying "emos don't mosh at concerts, they just stand there and slowly step side to side." Is this true? Haha please don't 'hate on me' or anything like that. It's just a light-hearted question, though I am very curious about this... |

Oh and also, people are afraid of feeling emotion. Everyone puts up a wall in social situations and that's okay, everyone does it. But when a traumatic event happens in life (and I'm not talking about 'woe is me I'm a wannabemo I cut' trauma, I'm talking about a death in the family or something similar) people don't know how to respond because all we know is how to suffocate emotion.
Basically, fear of the unknown. The majority of people are scared of anyone who dares to be different. So there. That's my opinion.
And please don't flame me, I am just sticking for all of those true, 90s emo kids out there. |

What is with this anti-emoism? I wish people would stop bashing emos! We aren't all pathetic, overdramatic kids who feign depression for an image! We don't cut, we don't cry ourselves to sleep AND we aren't depressed! We are what the term 'emo' stands for; EMOTIONAL. There are all kinds of emotions not just sadness. Empathy is a major emotion behind most emo music, not sadness and depression.
I think everyone just hates the emo sub-culture for two reasons...
1. The fake cutters who are posers and trivialise the whole, serious issue of self-harm.
2. And because everyone is afraid of feeling empathy for people! It's true! Everyone is so self-absorbed that they don't want to understand for a moment what it's like to be in someone else shoes or to feel someone else's pain/happiness. Well, like the British/Indian comedy title, "life isn't all ha ha hee hee" and the media pressures everyone to be happy all the time even if they aren't. That being said there is NOTHING wrong with being GENUINELY happy. But gaining happiness from putting others down is just pathetic. |

In my opinion, this song is about people that have low-self esteem and used to be confident but became forgotten and ignored e.g. the idea of a child's toy that is forgotten once the child's grown up. But the song has a positive note to it as towards the end Jeremy is saying that hope is still there for the forgotten people to live out their dreams and come out of the shadows. |

I think this song is about a man falling in love with a blonde bombshell type girl who seems warm, friendly, gorgeous and loveable on the outside but has serious problems beneath the surface that drag him into her tangled life e.g. "lose myself in you". I think the lyric, "same sign" is an indication for the man to get out of the relationship because it could turn his whole life upsidedown. When I heard this song I thought of a man who was in love with, or in an emotionally-intimate relationship with, an angel or angel-like person. Except, they can't be together because of an unknown reason. Thus, forbiddon love. So the man has to choose which pain to face; to see his angel in his dreams though he can't be with his angel or to face an empty life without his angel. |

I think this song is about getting out of that rut that we all fall into after a traumatic event. To me the ending "Wake up now, it's over, just tell me it's okay to die" is actually about letting that dark part of your life die, thus waking you up back into normal life again. |

That's kind of dissapointing. I thought that this song would have a greater meaning than that. In my opinion, I wouldn't feel regret about going on tour because music is what I love. Sure, I love my family too but I really wouldn't mind too much about leaving them, knowing I'll see them again soon. Life is about living, not wishing you were somewhere else. | Hawthorne Heights – Ohio Is for Lovers Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
Okay, now I know that the band wrote it about their girlfriends but to me that makes the song sound kinda boring. I imagined the song was about being lonely and unrequited love because of the lyrics, e.g. "I can't make it on my own" and the title of the song "Ohio Is For Lovers". In other words, I thought the songwriter of Hawthorne Heights (forgotten his name!) was writing this about the overly sentimental, lovey-dovey couples of Ohio that make him feel like an outsider.
But that's just my interpretation. |
