DubbaEww, I completely agree with you. The first time I heard this song was shortly after I deployed to Afghanistan, leaving my 2 month old baby girl and my wife, and ever since I've thought of this as my song. |

| Thrice – A Torch To End All Torches Lyrics

This song is obviously about God. The bible calls God the torch to end all torches, as in a light that shines brighter than all others- a supreme being. The entire song is nothing but metaphors for a human who finds God. The speaker is down about how life is hard and imperfect, and in the speakers darkest (i.e. shittiest) hour he/she finds God. And when he/she does, all the bad in his/her life fades away. It's as simple as that, with some good metaphorical language to get the point accross. |

No offense, but it seems like you shoudn't have to paraphrase the lines "Still believe - they can save us". You have probably the best interpretation of this song in my oppinion. |

| Thrice – To What End Lyrics

Because of the way the lines are typed it's misleading. The lyrics actually ask, "To what end do we proceed so boldly if all we are is chemical reactions?" He's not saying that we are chemical reactions, he's challenging someone else who has said all we are is chemical reactions. Then the rest of the song is the speaker saying basically this: "If all we are is chemical reactions as you (whoever the "you" is) have said, and we have no fire in our eyes, no steel in our hearts, no magic in our songs, and all we are is empty vessels, then we have no soul, no meaning, and no purpose. All of the art and poetry we have created and the hopes and dreams we aspire to are worthless acording to those that agree to us being no more than mere chemical reactions."
The speaker in the song is challenging those who believe we are simply science without soul or anything inside. He's completey disagreeing with the idea that all we are is chemical reactions, not agreeing with it. |
