My take on the song is that of oppression: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oppression . Some folks have hatred towards others who are not like themselves. They punish these others into submission until they comply. Unfortunately, the compliance is not without regret and retaliation (piercings, skulls, and violence). In the song, 311 leads us down the path of fighting back against these oppressors (hostile apostles) and getting caught up in their negative energy. However, in the end no one wins and we all grind to a halt. Just forget about all that and remember the important things, like the sun, wind, stars, and trees. Learn to love one another. |
