The Rolling Stones – Just Wanna See His Face Lyrics 15 years ago
So true. Mick must have been a Mississippi Delta bluesman or a sharecropper in a past life. He "gets" it so well, and from so far away!

The Rolling Stones – Moonlight Mile Lyrics 15 years ago
Beautiful song and one of my favorites from the Stones. But about Altamont. One year ago I had a conversation with a Hells Angel who was there when Meredeth Hunter was stabbed and he echoed what most of the HA guys say: How many people would Hunter have shot had they (Hells Angels) not brought him down?

HA are not choir boys, and you can legitimately pin plenty of murder and mayhem on them. But something tells me if Meredeth Hunter had not been black and had it been regular security and not a Hells Angel who killed him, some Stones fans would not be so pro-Hunter. Why else would Jumpyjack have to mention that Meredeth Hunter was black? Apparently as is so common in the world of rock and roll fandom, it is assumed that a black person is always the victim. Alan Passaro was acquited of the murder charges and was judged by a jury to have acted in self defence. So bite me mofo.

Pink Floyd – The Hero's Return Lyrics 15 years ago
The Gunner is a soldier who served in an airplane during WW2. Could have been a tail gunner or he could have been the guy who manned the nose turret. In the bombers of WW2 the guys communicated with each other (navigator, pilots, gunners, bombadiers) over headphones or intercoms. Between firefights they'd talk about their families, girls, dreams, what they would do after the war, the usual subjects you'd expect.

The Hero made it back and the gunner didn't. The gunner was in a plane that was shot down and he (the Gunner) now sleeps in the corner of some foreign field.

It's chilling and brings tears to your eyes when you think of this song while visiting the military cemetaries of Belgium or France. These guys gave their all, and those who survived to come home had a hard time reintegrating into normal society. How the hell do you come home and live a normal life when 2 weeks ago you were paid to kill people and there were professional killers on the other side doing their best to kill you first?

The Killers – When You Were Young Lyrics 15 years ago
Some people look bad on the outside and may in fact have some rough edges, but are actually good in many ways. They love their children and are there for a friend in need. Some people look like innocent angels but would steal your grandmother's last dime. Most of us are a combination of good and evil and we struggle with trying to be better.

She's been waiting for this beautiful boy to save her from her own drama and BS. When he shows up she almost doesn't recognize him because he doesn't look like the picture perfect guy from her childhood daydreams. I don't think he necessarily has to be ugly, but when she says he doesn't look like Jesus, it means outwardly he doesn't look like a respectable guy. Maybe he rides a motorcycle and has tattoos and drinks and parties and has never seen the inside of a church - but the fact that he talks like a gentleman is an indication he's articulate and intelligent. He has a wild side and they ride the hurricane and sometimes they can dip into the Devil's water.

Can they make it? Can they climb the mountain? They can but they have to take it slow because like all of us, they are both flawed. He's not perfect but he's got it together and can be the gentleman she imagined when she was young... more than she'll ever know - because he has that much good inside him.

Just my two cents. Great song, four years later.
