Dianabol, I think you are exactly right. I don't think he goes into detail about him selling his soul because he'd be too ashamed of what he did and that's why the song isn't specific about what he did |

I like to think of this song as a song about hospitality. People who own houses are holy in the eyes of the government. The government and media tell people that it's a dangerous world and they shouldn't go outside because of all the bad things happening like how they talk about on the news. The person in the song invites someone outside into the world and shows them that it isn't as bad as people tell them it is. |

| Of course the great thing about bands like Metallica is that their songs can be whatever you make it to be, what i posted above is what i believe the song is about. | |
| Metallica – The Unforgiven Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| The video shows the boy trying to escape a room his whole life and finally escapes when he's old, i like to think of the room being his sanity, so once he escapes the realm of sanity and becomes insane, then he's finally free of his guilt and pain of being unforgiven. | |

I like to think of this song being about a god who won't forgive a man. The boy was born and followed all of the rules of religion and breaks the one unforgivable rule. Having a god not forgiving you is the most intense pain a man can experience, there's nothing he can do to redeem himself. He becomes a tired old man because having to constantly fight the oncoming nonstop guilt everyday, and it seems to me that he's mad at the religion and life in general because it took away his will. |
