I love this song. And the band too, for that matter. Some of the lyrics are off, i.e. I always thought it was "And words are frail, can break in half..." and such, but these seem generally correct. As for the song meaning; it's a love song, there's almost no doubt about that. But the way the words are structured and the poetry is presented in so abstract a manner is beautiful. The song is vague, and you can't really visualize a scene as such. To me it's always seemed like a song about an ended relationship; the guy still thinks of the girl, still dreams of her, but life isn't always sweet. There's also notably a 'summer' atmosphere to the song, and whatever went wrong between the two must've taken place in summertime. Personally, I relate this song to a girl I cared about a lot; we eventually came very close together, and as we went out to a park one weekend at the beginning of summertime, I told her I really liked her and cared about her; she told me she felt the same way, and we kissed there, 'in the summer heat'; but she told me we couldn't go out, she was going away that summer and we'd be too far apart. We eventually fell apart not only as lovers but as friends as well, and this song was one I could relate to very well. |
