| i think everyone is missing the point, badly. it is about constantly doing the same thing, never introducing anything new and creative. this is suggested by "anyone can try anything twice, try anything twice/ chasing after stories that have already been told". contemporary r'n'b does just this. the artists shake their booty on tv screens, they re-use material ("try anything twice") and all of the songs in the entire genre sound almost identical. r'n'b is not creative anymore (as it once used to be) and the lyrics also imply that the 'rhythm and blues alibi' is a legit excuse to sell-out sexually to the masses. "son house" used to be a legendary and very influential delta blues guitarist and i cannot pin-point what gomez mean when they mention his name. perhaps it is a critique on how r'n'b cannot even hope to remotely come close to son house's purity and rawness of emotion in his music, because r'n'b is now so full of flash and empty gratification ("could not look old son house in the eyes"). | |
