| Death Cab for Cutie – Meet Me on the Equinox Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This song is literally about relationships and.. math, more or less. Look up Taijitu and understand how the equinoxes relate given the constantly opposed, intertwined yin and yang. And understand this in the context of relationships and why he would ask to be approached at the equinox. Keeping in mind that every relationship, in every definition of the word, ends. This is a really good song, and I think its concept fits the story in a very interesting way. |

These guys are smart. I think I know what this is REALLY about. They are talking about thinking for yourself and the consequences of not doing so. They talk about culture (culture: the non-genetic transmission of behaviors and ideas across members of a species) and how you will suffer if you make decisions based on what other people think and can only be happy taking "right action". I will provide examples to back up my argument. You have been lied to just to rape you of your sight And now they have the nerve to tell you how you feel (feel) So sedated as they medicate your brain as you slowly go insane they tell you Given with best intentions help you with your complications Lied to just to rape you of your sight- authority does not want the masses to think for themselves- instead they want to control them. culture is of evolutionary benefit... until you're talking about species as intelligent as human beings. culture now serves only to cause us to make decisions based on what others think, which is bad for intelligent beings and good for unintelligent beings that are stuck in a world of natural selection (oh, my fellow rats want to eat this. I should probably eat this too. oh, a loud noise. they're running. I should run away when I hear loud noises!) Can't wake up in sweat cause it ain't over yet Still dancing with your deamons (Victim of your own creation) Beyond the will to fight where all that's wrong is right Where hate don't need a reason (loathing self-assassination) When you make the wrong decisions (wrong action), you are stuck in a cycle of living with the consequences until you break the cycle. When you are in a cycle of wrong action, you usually lack the willpower to break the cycle until something pushes you too far. Your demons that make you a victim of your own creation is talking about the suffering you do when you decide to take wrong action and live in fear of making the right choice. You put yourself in the position to suffer by not doing the right action and you side with your choice anyway because it was the easy way to do things and feeling shitty about it seems easier than dealing with it. Loathing self-assassination? Yup. You should have known, the price of evil and it hurts to know that you belong here, yeah No one to call Everybody to fear Your tragic fate is looking so clear, yeah ooohhhh its your fucking nightmare You should have known the price of evil (wrong action) and it hurts to know that you belong here- when you make a bad choice, you might think at first 'oh i'm not like them' and then in time you discover that either you are or you aren't and get out of it. What this is saying is that it hurts to know that you are like the people you look down on for making such mistakes. It's a nightmare to live in fear of something instead of facing your fear and becoming fearless. I think this idea fits perfectly. What do you think? |
