beautiful song. It is definitely one of my favorite Avenged songs and probably my favorite ballad. This is an open letter from Brian to Jimmy about losing him and how he's feeling. It is so raw and powerful and with Brian writing it right after he lost Jimmy, you can feel the emotion and the sadness. The section: 'Sleep tight, I'm not afraid, The ones that we love are here with me, lay away a place for me, cause as soon as I'm done I'll be on my way, to live eternally' is so beautiful and sad all at the same time. This song is so relatable because anyone who has lost a loved one can relate to the lyrics and the emotion of it. It is also very special because Brian's dad (Brian Haner, Sr./Papa Gates) plays the acoustic guitar in the song and that touching because he was like a second father to him. |

Very good job with the lyrics, although two parts are wrong (according to the Itunes LP lyric sheet): 'No more pain' should be 'No more faith' and 'With the ones that come last are the best I know' should be 'With the worst to come lost the best I know.' Beautiful song, it's a funny thing, because although I love the song and think it should have been on the album, I agree with the guys opinions that they didn't know where it fit within the album as a whole. The song is definitely about the loss of Jimmy, the section that starts with 'there's something in your eyes...' is directed towards Jimmy, Matt is saying how the guys would be there with him but they can't and are wondering why he had to leave but even though they are 'alright' and putting up a strong front underneath they are broken ('under my armor I lost it all'). I think the line 'With the worst to come lost the best I know,' is in reference that the worst times are suppose to be in the future, they were suppose to grow old, they were not suppose to be separated for a long time but this tragedy happened and it is the worst they have ever been through and Jimmy was the best thing in their lives, they are trying to move on and get by but they feel like they have lost everything (their future). 'another day inside this dying soul' is one line that stuck with me. It almost seem to allude that because of this tragedy he is dying from the inside out. great track. I'm glad they they decided to release it as a bonus track/b-side. |
