I think it's just a story of two lovers and the development of their sexual relationship. At first they are young and new to being together, and the first stanza may be a brief description of their first time to make love. Maybe it's a first love type thing, or a finally finding someone type thing. By the second stanza, it's the realization that they are in love, but they are each at first in denial with excuses and "[other ways] to tell the truth". They then realize that they are meant to be because they can be both lovers and "best friends". (the second stanza is the one i'm most unclear on... maybe its when they are middle aged and they are just getting used to getting older) By the end they are both an old couple, and they've lost some of the physical strength they used to both have, but they are still in love so it doesn't matter. |

| The Morning Benders – Cold War (Nice Clean Fight) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Ya its based off of the cold war but thats not the point of the song. He and presumably his lover are in a small fight but they keep it civil, like a "cold war" instead of a regular one. They are both pissed underneath but they aren't gonna blow up on each other yet; they are gonna try to keep it calm, despite all the obvious tension. | |

| It could also be just one sentence "Do you hear that someone in your habitat?" | |

You never doubted it You’re so proud of it You strait shouted it You’re so proud of it You couldn’t care less You like goodness You think it’s endless, endless, endless You think in spite of this It doesn’t bother us No clue about it, no you never knew about it You need the spotlight You need to sit tight You want a real fight a-ah, a-ah Set, set that crown on the ground and-ah, (x6) Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah ah-ah, Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah You need to move back To see your backtrack Do you hear that? Someone in your habitat You are the real thing You hear the bell ring The class is ending, ending, ending You never think so You don’t wanna know There’s another show playing in your window Before the better you Is never, never through You’re gonna have to, have to, have to Set, set that crown on the ground and-ah, [x6] Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah ah-ah, Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, Set, set that crown, (set set that crown) [x16] (ah-ah) Crown |

| MGMT – Congratulations Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| i agree that they don't hate their fame/success like many people keep repeating, but they do have trouble understanding the worship they get. "its not a paid vacation" means they worked for this, it wasn't just given to them "sink or swim" means its not good or bad that they are famous. it's good bc of success and the ability to get their work out there, but at the same time there are some bad sides to it too. the first congratulations is sarcastic, like: well i have all these things now bc of fame i might as well get my congratulations too. the second time its submission: fame happened, i can't change it so i'll try to enjoy/deal with what's been dealt | |
| MGMT – Congratulations Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| any mention of needing congratulations is sarcastic, or as McGarnacle said, cynical submission or acceptance | |
| MGMT – Congratulations Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This is pretty much how i interpreted it too, and i couldn't really interpret concretely the two stanzas you skipped either...i would add that "you look down from your temple" may also be a sarcastic reference to the fact that they have some fans who almost worship them which they don't understand because it's "not a blaze of glory". "people endeavor to make it a story" is probably more about the media than people below them as you said (endeavor=enterprise; story=article/review). "and chisel a marble word" marble is most known as a material for sculpture, so they are creating stories about the band or criticizing "but all is lost if it's never heard" meaning too bad for those endeavors because they are still making music and are successful (relatable to other artists too). | |
| MGMT – Congratulations Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| In an interview with the band, while talking about the two albums they said that when they were making the first album they were very focused on making it perfect and publicly appealing, worrying about it being liked and it was almost a rushed compilation of years of ideas. They said the second album would possibly be less appealing to some but it would be a more true representation of their work as a solid 1 year's efforts to putting together work they wanted. Additionally, in general sophomore albums are often about the fame if they were not famous before the first | |
| Best Coast – Boyfriend Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Simple lyrics that are perfect. I'm not saying that Best Coast can compare to the greatness of The Beatles, but they do remind me of them. They have similar sound. | |
