I think it's a song from God's p.o.v. saying to us, "I dare you to test me". Saying "even in madness, I know you still believe..." I think it's based on God saying to us that we're not really supposed to test him, but if we do, we're stepping out of place. Matthew 4:7 says "Jesus answered him, It is also written: thou shalt not put the lord your god to the test." Where it says "Paint me your canvas so I become what you could never be" seems to say we all have our own opinions of what God is and who he is, and either way, we can't be him, so if we test him, we're trying to be someone that we can't possibly measure up to. |
