I agree with metalhasthebestlyrics. Definitely about how if you don't get help when you need it and put your pride out of the way. It could lead to ruin, just like fear, hatred, power leads to ruin. It stops all your progress, the death of your evolution, the true murder of self. From what i heard the band members saying about their lyrics on their dvd's, they write them in Black Sabbaths style who started using Bibical symbols for real things in their lives. But none of the songs are actually for or against religion. They have mainly been about their own political opinions, advice on how to approach your life and personal struggles in their lives. Like 11th Hour means, it's the last chance to change your life, now or never, that they give up their rampant alcoholism, I think it's the best song they have made so far, best riffs, best lyrics. |

Good song 'bout addictions... But nothing beats the symbolism/metaphors in 11th Hour, Lamb of God. So fucking good ! Have a listen, awesome band too. Shows how much damage alcohol can do. Metal really is about giving you strength during hard times !!! And an awesome listen to when your not going through hard times. I love metal ! |

Sure did, but no one else actually explained themselves properly/consistently. ; ) Psychology major ? This song sounds incredibly good like other classics, fade to black, nothing else matters. Deep down these Metal gods are softies/human, very in touch with their emotions, nothing wrong with that. This song is so country though... could have done without the slide guitar, country signature sound. Very brave man James is for writing something so honest. That the love he didn't receive from his mother caused the rebellion in him. |

Yeah, Maison Blanche is a weird one. It literally means "white house". But Blanching is also a process of cooking by boiling food for a moment in boiling water then putting it in freezing water to stop it from cooking. White blanching could refer to the person feeling dead because of the abuse. Fits the torturing soul described here better here I think. One extreme to another... |

Love the riffage and vocal phrasing matches well together. The lyrics seem to be about how a depressed person feels. It sounds like a wake up call, it's not as bad as it seems. Realising it's murder of self...Transgression mythologized, indiscretions immortalized. .... Shows how much a person can talk themselves into thinking it's really bad, all your little mistakes seem bad, but in reality there not. "I don't know what the fuck have I become ?" Expresses exactly how you feel when your depressed and you don't know how to get out of it, how did I get here ? |

Weird song... Starts with what sounds like a recording of a tour in the middle east, showing some old schools, you hear the sound of the call to prayer that muslims do 5 times a day. Then the tour guide saying to a little boy, hello back to his greeting, because it's a tradition to greet like that, the tour guy says, he is a real religious little shit ! Great stuff ! Greet the sacred cow then kill it....hmmm... First lines talk about false sympathy for someone. Other lines are hands full of protein, like strength maybe...arms like fire...all consuming and powerful, destroying...then a denial that this person is diplomatic. So probably about iraq, the americans being like a sacred cow to the arabs, it's a false reverence towards the americans helping them, not really deserved but unquestionable. So the line kill the sacred cow is the image of america being saviors, without question. So the message here is to think for yourself I believe. |

What is this song about ? I have only just started to look at artists lyrics for bands i like. And i have no idea with most of them. So vague, so seemingly contradictory.... I'll have a go: You have this person saying fight for integrity and honesty, etc... also saying don't give a shit about anything....feeling pressure. The message probably is fight for integrity and honesty in your life, don't worry what others say, find your own way, because only you know what your going through, no one else does or can. "will you beat out motherfucking empathy from me, for you" This line sounds like people trying to assert control over your beliefs, trying to make you feel something you don't. They are trying to change you not for you but for themselves. Do it your way, YOU control your own world ! Nice message with great music, sounds more like the LD 50 days. |

I believe the idea behind the news showing tragedies is that we feel for other people, we have empathy for them. And take action to help them. So there is nothing wrong with watching news and feeling for others. The problem comes when people take pleasure in the suffering of others, which Maynard seems to be saying we all do...no, if you do you are pretty sick. Seem's to go against some other things Tool says, so I think it must mean that others who do take pleasure are sick. No one must watch people suffer they would rather not have them suffering at all. Weird topic to sing about... |

The song i believe is just saying, we live in a media centric world. And we seem to now live off the tragedies of others so much so we couldn't live without it. News always focuses on the big issues, so we can highlight the problem and find a solution to the problems hopefully start a discussion, just like all art, music, spoken or written. So it seems Maynard has got it wrong. We don't need to live vicariously through others suffering. It just seems that way...depends on what he really meant, i guess. |

Comment to the discussions going on: Songs and religious/philosophical books are the most ambiguous things there are in my opinion. They promise so much and deliver little in terms of meaning. What songs seem to be about in general, is a specific thing that happened to the song writer, but is written about very broadly so that if someone is going through a similar thing, it may help them too. e.g The lyrics for this is based around the Greek myth possibly, but look how many other meanings it could have.... To me it seems to show a person going into a bad state, then having some kind of cosmic light pass over them gaining strength from the universe (moon light, a reflective light)...or something, coming out of it better than before, because now they know the reason that got them in that place, it was their own ego. Set it aside and you won't ever have to feel that way again, then you will realise we are all like one consciousnous not one above another, all the same. |

Oh yeah, The blood's on the wall is just a saying, it means the evidence (for something you did) is right in front of you (and the consequences are damaging and horrible), it means you definitely did something terrible and here is the evidence. You need bleach to get rid of blood stains. Makes it clear that it will be hard to get rid of the affects of your past mistakes. It will be hard to come to grips with it and to forget it(commit to forgetting it). Over stating the fact that you should be totally blank than remembering the event. You have to smother the failure completely. Lay it completely to rest, as in dead and gone forever. |

Duet For Guitar and Oxygen Tank (door opens, starts breathing heavily) 6. Nerve Damage (flat lining - medical equipment sound, rushing to the surface, running out of breath) 7. Screaming Bends (dark eerie music) 8. Panic In Blue (really starts to loose it, disorientated) 9. Love on the Event Horizon (happy vocals, dahh da ends, with "aahh...ahh" in pain) 10. It would seem obvious that the guy was thrown overboard, he sinks (Man Overboard) possibly unconscious, he wakes up disorientated (Drowning Flute), doesn't know for how long and see's he is going to drown, there is not much oxygen in the tank, loses his mind a bit under water (maybe dances with the fishes) ; ) (aqua swing)..thinning oxygen, then realises he has to re-surface fast, he starts climbing (following the bubbles to the surface/starting to get sick internally as he is climbing too fast), he tries to get to the surface before time runs out (Guitar and Oxygen Tank), suffers nerve damage (nerve damage), gets a severe case of the bends (Screaming Bends), Panics (Panic In Blue)....trying to get to the surface he gets an extreme sense of relief, he is almost there, it feels euphoric (Love on the event horizon) re-entry almost kills him, intense experience...
