I don't think this song is about cheating at all. When she sings, "It's clear you love another man," I think it's a reference to her having moved on. The man in the song was afraid to commit to her, even though she loved him an incredible amount. Maybe he felt smothered or overwhelmed by how much she loved him ("My love is like a blanket that gets a little too warm"). Either way, he pushed her away and told her it was for the best. With no other choice, she moved on. He came to regret what he did, and realized how much he still loves her ("It's crazy how love stays with me"). He knows there's nothing he can say to change her mind ("It's too late for soliloquies"), and all he can do is say he is sorry and hope to stay friends. |

This song was released on Facebook the day after my boyfriend broke up with me, so I read a lot of pertinence in the lyrics. It's about having a brief, intense affair with someone -- or even, just to an extent, unrequited love -- and knowing that it's not going to last or work out, even though you want it to. |
