Liz Durrett – All of Them All Lyrics 13 years ago
A beautiful song of encouragement and consolation. It's from a perspective of a friend talking to someone who's going through intense hardship and surviving; particularly from antagonists (life in general, emotions, etc., but most likely other people), telling the friend that whatever ills others have done, they will answer for it, setting the tone for the song's title and chorus ("In everyone a summons awaits"). Also stating how fate (karma, etc.) balances and evens the score somehow and eventually for everyone, the good and those who have done harm ("And for some of them briefly and some incompletely. But all of them all of them all").

In the end are words of human nature to be careful and circumspect, especially in trusting people too easily ("and just like a black snake so low in the leaves only shows what it wants to be seen"), but ultimately not getting caught in the discouragement as time eventually heals and as above, evens the score ("Believe me, time unwinds it").

Not necessarily meant to be analyzed and better to be taken as a message along with the mood of the song as a metaphor, but which works well even when taken literally and examined word for word.

Liz Durrett's style and voice is almost a dead ringer for Fiona Apple; and this song reminds me of a Peter Gabriel / Kate Bush duo called "Don't Give Up", and absolutely sublime all the way.

XTC – The Ballad Of Peter Pumpkinhead Lyrics 15 years ago
The Kennedy angle seems to stem largely from the XTC video, which are not usually good indicators for song lyrics or meanings; but which people have taken literally.

This song to me is about Jesus, placed in a modern setting, as well as the general intolerance of society towards people who want to make life and the world a better place.
