There are several ways I've interpreted this song, though none have to do with Hitler or Satanists. The first is that this is Lucifer, "Legion I arose", and his fall from grace as well as the aftermath. "A thousand nights once succoured Me In the shadow of misanthropy" (this word meaning the hatred of mankind, which would make sense b/c essentially man is the reason Lucifer fell) A cruel tongue at work in Her secret vaults Sent Rebellion's embers into revolt The comming of extinction Synched to whimpers of my name (her being mankind, or possibly the angels, rebellion's embers being the aftermath of the war in Heaven, and the “whimpers” being the fear with which Lucifer is now regarded) An acid reign to purify the world...(he and God are now playing a game of who can win the most souls) A sniper at the gates of spattered pearl (Pearly Gates being the common term for the gates into Heaven and Lucifer who is doing his best to keep man from entering) "My heart, torn apart, left a rifled grave... Save for an unfurled flag of hate To enthral a mindless zombie race" (If you believe the Muslim version of the fall of Lucifer, he was thrown from Heaven for loving god too much and refusing to bow to man, who was so very inferior to his beloved God. In this version, Lucifer did love God, hence his "torn heart" this "flag of hate" being his vow to prove just how corruptible and crappy God's newest creations (the zombie race) really are) "Black bibles I incribed, The words "Damnation through design" Seemed a bitter truth far better for the lie For as hope was felled by reason Forlorn became the season And Death was swift to swallow on the hells of life" (even the devil has a bible but this line is about his twisting man and turning his fears against him. "truth far better than the lie" he knows the truth but for his purposes is willing to twist the facts and make man doubt god "Hope was felled by reason" and therefore drag them into hell) “Lowered souls, growing cold, tentered easy prey When heaven's flock, a fair game, dropped I bored of war with God with greater thrones to claim...” (I believe this is self-evident) The “sly messiah” he speaks of could be one of the many God sent in times of need to lead his flock back to “the light” and away from damnation. However this is where there are inconsistencies and we come to my NEXT theory: Theory TWO: There is a love story here. "A thousand nights once succored Me In the shadow of Miss Anne Thropy" (the play on words seems to say that this man was once deeply in love but the loss of this woman, be it death or abandonment has led him to despise all people and seek to get some sort of revenge on them for his unhappiness though I believe he was hatful before) The next verse is blatantly sexual if looked at in this context and adds to this Romance theory. “A cruel tongue at work in Her secret vaults Sent Rebellion's embers into revolt The cumming of extinction Synched to whimpers of my name” “I bored of war with God” perhaps he blamed God for loosing this girl which points the idea that she might have died, as well as the mention of the pearly gates before) “She stole the soul hate had sold away An ancient chill blew down the centuries That night atonement's eyes Lit a burning man in Me” (she made him feel something other than hatred and made him want to love her) The verse “When love lay bleeding And Fates sate feeding >From wounds gored 'neath Those cherubic wings She of kindred light Gladly sacrificed Eternity Just to be With Me” leads me to believe that this romance might have even existed between an angel (the woman) and a demon, the whole star-crossed lovers bit. This however adds weight to the idea that after losing her, his hatred for man and everything else grew, because he lost her after she left Heaven to be with him.) “As the moon whose silvered fingers play On words and dreams too cursed for day She led my hand to lands I'd not accrued Where the Faun Dawn bathed Her golden hair And faith renewed, leapt joyous there I praised their worth, then planned their conquest too...” (here he talks about their shaky romance, the fear that they would be discovered/separated/whatever, but forget these fears once day shows her true beauty nd instead plans on making the sexin’) “all heil the serpentine's gift” (his stripped love) the Libertine’s wish (to keep this woman as his sexual and emotional companion) “and ignorance is truly bliss.” ( now that he’s had this great love stolen from him, he wishes that he had never known it at all and saved himself the pain) |
