I have no idea if Rob Dickinson is religious (I myself am not), but it seems to me that this song is about Jesus or God, or some other spirituality. Love of/from God has often been spoken in stories and songs as something unbreakable and eternal, even when things are tough and things fall apart. It can't be bound or bought, it just is. The mention of "show me some grace" in one of the lines hints further at this. Mountain and water symbolism is also associated with religion. If the song isn't meant to be taken directly at face value, I think it's about faith. |

One thing that's always appealed to me about Japandroids' lyrics is that they have a certain naivete to them. So one of the best things about this song is that not only is it a "remember back when" song, but it SOUNDS like one. Not just the lyrics, but the song reminds me of the way songs used to make me feel when I was younger too. |
