I think he is defs remencising on a past relationship. The verses are a reflection of conversations they may have had in the past. In the first verse, he talks to her (even though they've seperated) but doesn't show any emotions of loss or devistation. But when he is alone he begins to uses the lyrics of 'I SAY Oh' (rather than i cry or scream 'oh' - because he wants to sound casual) - as in 'I miss her so much. I wish I could win her back.' He is upset over their loss. In the second verse, I believe he could have been talking to her before they broke up, but it's not until he sings the 'oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah I will, that he realises that he is lying to himself and to her. When he repeates the 'I say, oh. I cry, oh' This time, it's a very heart filled cry, in the song he is actaully admitting he is crying over the girl. You can hear the pain in his voice, it's very profound. And then it's like he is singing to himself I saw sparks, trying to comfort himself with their past memories in which sparks of chemistry errupted. The la, la, la's is just a reflection of memories, like a dream. |

When I heard this, I got the impression that he was reminiscing on a past relationship He had a past relationship with a girl (in Melbourne his home town where they watched and chased the bats) and he broke her heart. “They can keep dreaming, dreaming of sleep down the end of the bed” referring to the girl wanting to move on and get some sleep etc. Now years down the track the girl has found a new love and he is accepting of this “But nobody’s ever gonna break your heart again” I don't know though, I guess it's all about how you interpret it. |
