So, everywhere I look it has the line as "You can't dress trashy till you spend a lot of money". However, since I first heard it and even now it really sounds like he's saying "You can't dress this fashion till you spend a lot of money". Also, it makes more sense. I rarely feel like the entire world is wrong other than me, but this is one of those cases. |

As a sidetrack, the common execution of Christians by Romans was being set upon by dogs (as well as crucifixion and burning). Although the Romans killed many by setting wild animals upon them (including lions), there is no correlation between specifically Christians and specifically being killed by lions. There is a letter written by Tertullian (a Christian) who said the Romans often remarked "away with the Christians to the lion" (which may be what started the whole belief), but if it was commonly carried out, he probably would have mentioned that, too. Tacitus, a historian of that time, also talks heavily about Christians being murdered by Romans in various cruel ways, but he does not mention being set upon by lions. Of course, it's possible that John wrote the lyrics under the commonly held belief. |
