Corinne Bailey Rae – Like a Star Lyrics 14 years ago
Props to this song for giving a romance that lots of people can relate to...and giving a good message.

Even if two people argue a lot, maybe even all the time, it doesn't mean they're an less in love, and it doesn't mean that their relationship isn't normal or even healthy.

Very beautiful. Except, I'm a wussy girl, so I almost cried the first time I heard this.

<3 I love it. "Codes and Keys" has to be one of the best albums I've listened to since "Plastic Beach" came out, and this song just sums the album up perfectly.

The Beatles – Eleanor Rigby Lyrics 15 years ago
This song makes me sad every time I hear it, seriously...lonely people who will never meet up and be happy. And the last few lines, "Eleanor Rigby died in a church and was buried along with her name. Nobody came." makes me depressed.

A great song, though.

People take this song too seriously. It's kind of silly, which is why I like to sing it sometimes. :D

The Beatles – She's Leaving Home Lyrics 15 years ago
"Paul McCartney:
John and I wrote 'She's Leaving Home' together. It was my inspiration. We'd seen a story in the newspaper about a young girl who'd left home and not been found, there were a lot of those at the time, and that was enough to give us a story line. So I started to get the lyrics: she slips out and leaves a note and then the parents wake up ... It was rather poignant. I like it as a song, and when I showed it to John, he added the long sustained notes, and one of the nice things about the structure of the song is that it stays on those chords endlessly. Before that period in our song-writing we would have changed chords but it stays on the C chord. It really holds you. It's a really nice little trick and I think it worked very well.
While I was showing that to John, he was doing the Greek chorus, the parents' view: 'We gave her most of our lives, we gave her everything money could buy.' I think that may have been in the runaway story, it might have been a quote from the parents. Then there's the famous little line about a man from the motor trade; people have since said that was Terry Doran, who was a friend who worked in a car showroom, but it was just fiction, like the sea captain in "Yellow Submarine", they weren't real people.[1]
The newspaper story McCartney mentioned was from the front page of the Daily Mirror, about a girl named Melanie Coe. Although McCartney made up most of the content, Coe, who was 17 at the time claims that he got most of it right. Her parents wondered why she had left... "She has everything here." In real life, Melanie did not "meet a man from the motor trade", but instead a croupier, and left in the afternoon while her parents were at work. She was found ten days later because she had let slip where her boyfriend worked.[2]"

This song makes me cry, every single time I hear it. Every. Single. Time. That chorus...the vocals in this song are absolutely beautiful. This is one of my favorites on the album...the strings are just perfect.

God. The lyrics "Standing alone at the top of the stair, she breaks down, and cries to her husband "Daddy, our baby's gone"...the way McCartney sings that is just heartbreaking. It makes me tear up.

The Beatles – Here Comes the Sun Lyrics 15 years ago
George is my favorite Beatle, and this song just makes me want to get a time machine and go back and marry him.

The lyrics are so light and easy. It doesn't have a dark, hidden meaning and it's not heavy. It's just a lovely, fun song, and it makes me smile whenever I hear it.

Jon Mclaughlin – Beautiful Disaster Lyrics 15 years ago
The sad thing is that I completely relate to the girl in this song...like, every single lyric.

I think it's about a girl who has been innocent and sweet her whole life, but she's been so lonely she's willing to change her whole self to find a boy--someone who needs her and wants to live a "happy-ever-after" with her. She gives them whatever they want and tries to play it cool so they don't suspect how disoriented and unhappy she is. She doesn't really have an identity; she changes depending on the boy she likes, in a way. And it's tearing her up inside, but she wants a love so bad she can't do anything about her. She needs someone to accept her for who she really is to make her feel complete.

A great song. I love Jon's voice in this.

This song just oozes cool. Not only are the lyrics great, but the trombones, saxes and trumpets are absolutely amazing. I tried getting my high school jazz band to play this, but the guitarist just about died.

I love this song so much...one of my favorite FOTC songs. As questionable as the lyrics may be, I think I would actually be kind of flattered if my boyfriend sang this to me, just because it's so silly.
