wow. that really makes a lot of sense. love your interpretation. i feel like that a lot lately. not exactly in the same nostalgic way that conor does, but in more of a growing up way. struggling with decisions and deciding who i am, wondering if i have any real passion? and what i want to become of me. but nothing seems to get crossed out. makes me think of southern state with "is this really what you want?" because i truly have no IDEA what i really want. but "when the world ends, whose gonna hear it" anyways? ps. good to know that there are others just listening to some of conors greatest songs in 2011. been listening to him for about a year now and still trying to comprehend/get through it all. he is so amazing, but i feel kinda feel like im a decade late. hahaha. ;) |

This is such a great and complex song! I expecially love the title, and how it fits in with the verses. I think it's about how he once thought at a young age that the world was huge and complex and one day he would experience it all. but in the first verse i think he is saying that the world is a show. "the crowd was small and mostly blind" says that none of the people really know or understand the vast complexities of the world, so they're blind. and they are small compared to everything. but i think he's realized all this is false, and now that he knows this and experienced everything, he is almost back to where he started. confused still and looking at the world as a mystery. the way he thought when he was young, but in a different way this time. "now you are how you were when you were real". i also think that the song is about conor. he is saying 'you' but really referring to himself. what do you all think? ps. soooo excited to see him live!! |

I disagree. I do agree with the first quote, but I think the second quote is being sarcastic. Saying that everyone always says that eventually tomorrow will come, and he is sort of mocking them. Saying "yeah, sure and all the skeletons will come back to life." because eventually we'll all die. we could die tomorrow. for the third quote: i think he is still mocking, saying that the lion will never lay down with the lamb just like she will never come back to him. so he'll never feel happy again. i dunno if im right or not, but i just thought i would share my opinion with you guys also! ps. i LOVE the way he says disbelief. showing how much he truly disbelieves it... great song!!! |

| wow. this makes so much sense. | |

i love how passionate connor is about this song. and how he keeps getting louder and louder.... to me, its about the concept of love in general. and how confusing and scary it is...how he wishes there was one single person he could love. be draped in flowers together. and never look back or wonder. innocent and pure. but thats not the way it is...its so much more than that. But as for me I'm coming to my final failure I've killed myself with changes trying to make it better But I still ended up becoming something other Than what I had planned to be you cant plan for love. it happens through many different changes complications. connor wants it all to be clear. to have one desire. and when those moments do come, he tries to write them down into a perfect sonnet. but then thats all it ever was. |

| is it a part of fevers and mirrors? i thought it was part of every day and every night. but it does relate to fevers and mirrors a lot...i agree. fevers and mirrors is my favorite album...but i love this song too. | |

I agree! It doesn't matter so much who it's about. It probably is a combination of different women. Maybe he kept changing his answers in that interview to show that his songs can mean different things for different people. Also in his Fevers and Mirrors album, the girl Arienette, is the main focus of his songs and even has her own song. But he stated in an interview that she is completely made up. But he still thought she might be listening. It's almost like Arienette was a girl he was going to meet in the future, the one he is searching for. |

| ok one more thing. I know that arienette is a girl that connor completely made up. so the whole album is about a made up girl..that a part of him still believes is real. right? and if this is true...then is this song about a girl who isnt real? or maybe just girls and love in general, and he is relating it to his fantasy girl: arienette. im not sure what is the right answer here, i wanna know all of your opinions. anything to help me better understand bright eyes songs is great. :D thanks! please reply to my message telling me what you all think if you get this!!! | |
| Bright Eyes – A Scale, a Mirror, and Those Indifferent Clocks Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
i dont think this song is about rape or an eating disorder. its about life in general. the scale- this is the scale measuring the fact that some sort of god has to exist. someone chose the colors you see. the one who chose it has an absolute concept of beauty. aka god the mirror-self reflection or examination. not sure who he is. questions whether its just a mirror or is there a point to examining himself. is there a point to life? the indifferent clocks- the clocks keep on winding...time keeps going. it doesnt matter if ur rich or poor or selfish or kind. eventually we all just die. so wats the point of even trying hard while were here? whats the real point of life??? so thats that. i love this song....because it describes how i feel a lot of the time. plus my eyes are green and i was born in july..so i kind of connnected that to myself. idk. but this song is great. its indescribable. genius. |

i'll admit that at first this song was not my favorite of Bright Eyes. the first songs I listened to a lot were the fevers and mirrors album. this song wasnt my favorite before, but its definitely grown on me. i would rank it in my top five of all bright eyes. the lyrics are so powerful....thats what i love about connors work. his work isnt like some artists who have one verse or even just a line or two of good lyrics. all of them are amazing! i could spend hours analyzing every line. i dont even like any other emo music or music similar to bright eyes in any way. bright eyes is just sooo goooood. the lyrics are the best thing about them. and the way the songs make you feel while you listen to them. im pretty much hooked on bright eyes. :D |

| Bright Eyes – Going for the Gold Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
this song is so amazing. i really love bright eyes....but it's hard to describe exactly why. know what i mean? connor doesn't have the best voice in the world but the way it is acts perfectly for his songs. its beautiful. all bright eyes' songs give you this feeling that just becomes peaceful and calms yourself completely. and the lyrics are so powerful...straight from the heart. to me...this song is about apologizing for all the times we screw up in life. but also about questioning whether any of it really matters at the same time. the girl who practices violin's music is so pure, and so real. he wonders what's the point of the little things? they seem worthless next to music so powerful. but then he also makes fun of himself and people like him who feed off of music and videos that aren't real. so isn't he just wondering what is real at all? what's the purpose of everything? and do the little things matter? or do they mean everything?? beautiful song. :D |
