| This song makes me think of Britney Spears every time I hear it (minus the whole made up name bit. Her name real name is and always will be Britney Jean Spears). We all know she had her infamous breakdown. But after that it seems like her views on fame changed. She's no longer putting herself out there like she did in her prime. Whenever she does an interview (which is pretty rare) she usually gives very shallow answer to the questions she's asked. In all honesty, she's pretty much retired from the pop music scene. The only thing she's doing is her Las Vegas residency, which ends in 2015. She's expressed her desire to retire countless times, but I guess only time will tell. | |

I think this song is sung from two different perspectives. There's Taylor and a guy she dated. I think the guy, for whatever reason, broke up with her. But after breaking up with her he realizes what he lost and wants her back. "Found myself at your door, Just like all those times before, I'm not sure how I got there, All roads they lead me here. I imagine you are home, In your room, all alone, And you open your eyes into mine, And everything feels better, Right before your eyes, I'm breaking, no past No reasons why, Just you and me." This is from the guy's perspective. He's at her house and imagining that she's in her room lamenting over the break up. She let's him in and he apologizes. I think the line "no past, no reasons why" is the guy trying to tell her to forget the past and how he hurt her. "This is the last time I'm asking you this, Put my name at the top of your list, This is the last time I'm asking you why, You break my heart in the blink of an eye, eye, eye" Now he's saying that this is the last time he's going to ask for forgiveness. I think this is the last time because he's been through this many times. Constantly trying to convince her to forgive him. He wants her to take him back and make him the most important person in her life. Every time she rejects him she breaks his heart. "You find yourself at my door, Just like all those times before, You wear your best apology, But I was there to watch you leave, And all the times I let you in, Just for you to go again, Disappear when you come back, Everything is better. Right before your eyes, I'm aching, no past Nowhere to hide, Just you and me" Now this is from Taylor's perspective. She finds him at her door again trying to apologize, but she doesn't care. She's over it now and wants him to leave. She lets him in, but only to reject his advances. When he's gone she feels better because she doesn't love him anymore. "This is the last time I'm asking you this, Put my name at the top of your list, This is the last time I'm asking you why, You break my heart in the blink of an eye, eye, eye" Since the chorus is now from Taylor's perspective, she's telling him that this is the last time she's going to reject him. She wants him gone for good. He's broken her heart before and he knows that he'll do it again "in the blink of an eye". "This is the last time you tell me I've got it wrong, This is the last time I say it's been you all along, This is the last time I let you in my door, This is the last time, I won't hurt you anymore." Taylor is saying that she's not going to listen to him anymore. He's been trying to tell her that he's changed and she needs to see, but she doesn't believe him. She's also saying that this is the last time he should come to her house. She's over him and doesn't want to see him again. The guy is trying to convince her that he's changed. He promises that he won't hurt her anymore and just wants a second chance. I really like how the chorus means different things to Taylor and Gary. Taylor is saying it's the "last time" she wants to reject him, and Gary is saying it's the "last time" he's going to ask for her to forgive him. |

Only three comments? For a masterpiece like this? I can't believe it. I didn't really realize how sad this song was until I listened to it today and really focused on the lyrics. It really hit me how sad it is, and I immediately started crying. I think this song is about someone close to you dying, and comforting yourself by thinking that, one day, you'll be reunited again. "Look at the stars, I will take one down for you No matter what the distance, I'll see it through I'll feel you in between the sun and moon 'Til the end I'll be waiting" This is the only stanza I really don't understand. Obviously it's a metaphor for something, but as of right now I don't understand what she's trying to say. The last line though, "Til the end I'll be waiting", is her saying that, she'll be waiting forever to see this person again. "And whenever at night, the lights go down I know that you'll go on to shine somehow And even if you're miles above the clouds 'Til the end I'll be waiting" This is saying that even in the darkest times, and even though they're so far apart, this person needs to remember that she's always there. "Now I lay me down to sleep I pray we'll meet inside my dreams" For the most part this is self-explanatory. She hopes they'll be reunited in her sleep. "So long, my little dreamer, I will miss your face We'll always stay connected through time and space The journey that we shared but now have to leave Will live inside of us for eternity, yeah" The first two lines are saying that, no matter how far the distance, they'll always be connected. Not physically, but mentally and emotionally they'll always have a special connection. I think the "journey that they shared" is the time that they spent together, and now that this person is gone their "journey" has ended, but the memories that they shared will stay with them forever. "Look through the dark, there's a compass in the sky If ever you are lonely and question why Remember that I'm always by your side 'Til the end I'll be waiting" I have no clue what the first line means. Another metaphor that I haven't been able to decipher yet. But the other lines are reinstating that she'll always be with this person. "And even though we sleep light years apart A galaxy away is not so far Because we know the future is our start 'Til the end I'll be waiting" This is saying that distance doesn't matter. They'll always be connected. And sometime in the future they'll be together again, and that's when their lives will begin. "Now I lay me down to sleep I pray we'll meet inside my dreams If I should go before I wake I pray our souls will join again" Again, this is self-explantory, except now there's two extra lines. All she's saying is that if she passes away she hopes that they'll meet again in their next life. "So long, my little dreamer, I will miss your face We'll always stay connected through time and space And everything we hoped that could never be Will live inside of us for eternity" I think this is talking about all the plans that they had, all the things that they wanted to do, they can't do them now since this person passed away. But they'll always be alive inside of them. "Destiny will be apart of you and me I'll feel you in the atmosphere And nothing will be left to fear" For some reason this isn't on the page? Whatever. Here she's saying that it's their destiny to meet again. And even though this person isn't with Christina physically, she knows that they're always going to be with her, and there's nothing to be afraid of. And that's it. I can't believe this song is a bonus track on the iTunes version only. It should've been on the main album, and then released as a single. It's too good for people not to hear it, and it's a shame that only fans get to hear this masterpiece. I love how the song has an upbeat, nursery rhyme sound to it, but the lyrics are the complete opposite. They're really sad, but not in a depressing way. I call them happy-sad lyrics :) |
