The Meg And Dia Band – Fighting For Nothing Lyrics 14 years ago
I've seen a lot of these comments have been suggested that the line from her mother is literal - an STD or some other disease. I always took it in the context of the rest of the song which is obviously a love song. I have been thinking of that line ("Could be worse, could be born with that disease instead or catching it first") in more metaphorical terms. There are some people who seem to always be falling in love time and time again really quickly when they should be holding back some, and then there are other people who never put anything into a relationship until one day when they find someone really special. What if the singer is like the latter, whose only real comfort in being so vulnerable is that she hasn't been until this relationship? Just my thoughts on that. Love this song, so amazing!

Rihanna – Russian Roulette Lyrics 15 years ago
I disagree with a lot of you (no offense). I personally think this is one of those songs that you're supposed to take at face value. She's playing a game of Russian Roulette, her life is on the line, but she's not about to back out. If you've ever played the game, you know this is exactly how you feel throughout it. Anyone who has played also knows once you're in it, there's no backing out (unless by some miracle you're playing with a forgiving person/group). So I honestly don't think she intended this song to mean much more than she's holding a gun to her head for a game. The gunshot in the end is the perfect example as to why there doesn't have to be a hidden message.

I like your interpretation of "shout it from the rooftops."

Jordin Sparks – Papercut Lyrics 15 years ago
I agree mostly with oxconversexo, however I disagree with the interpretation of "papercut." I personally think the narrator uses the term because while it is a small, "insignificant" injury, it hurts like a bitch. It's been said that a papercut hurts more than anything else. So I think by calling this heartbreak a papercut, she's saying that it was a "small, insignificant" relationship or breakup or whatever, but it hurts more than she's willing to admit.

Also, I love the line "I forget that it's there." Taken literally, one can forget they have a papercut, but they're always reminded sometime when it's hit or pulled apart or gets something in it. But I think she intends for this line to be almost sarcastic - or maybe just defensive. As if she's thinking, "You're always on my mind and I'm not okay, but there is no chance that I am going to let you see that."
