My interpretation of this song stems from my week-long stint in the hospital due to a collapsed lung. I had previously been very active, and being confined to the bed with a chest tube made me realize how trapped I felt. During that whole time, however, the rest of the world continued doing everything without me. It makes you appreciate the moments you experience in the world. And I reached the same conclusion before leaving the hospital that I would not "let it pass me by again". "It" being the opportunities to experience life. He could be referencing a sickly child who spent his/her days in the house, unable to interact with other children. To a sickly child, the house would present itself as a confining locale instead of the warm and comforting place most children perceive their homes to be. |
