Violent Femmes – Waiting For The Bus Lyrics 15 years ago
When I was in high school, sometimes I would sing this song to pass the time while waiting for the bus to come pick me up for school. Damn bus-driver-man was always late...

Scouting for Girls – James Bond Lyrics 15 years ago
Being a lass from the states who doesn't regularly listen to the radio, I didn't hear about this band until recently, this song being my initial introduction. I've got to say, everything by this band is incredibly addicting, though it can be a bit repetitive. This song just makes me smile, being a hopeless escapist myself; because that's what it's about- wishing you could be someone else. (Admittedly, this band is a bit blunt with thier lyrics for my taste, but it's so catchy that I can't hate it.)
Whenever I hear it, though, I can't help but think of Humon's Agent 300 from Niels. Perhaps another reason why it makes me smile. (I wish I could be James Bond too... so many girls... -sigh-)

Violent Femmes – I Held Her In My Arms Lyrics 15 years ago
While I am tempted to say that this song has a homosexual connotation, I think it's actually about a guy who is trying to convince his girlfriend that he didn't cheat on her.

"I'm gnawing on the knowledge that I have been burnt/ And I'm learning things that I should have already learned" He realizes that his girlfriend is pissed and might break up with him.
"Everyone I ever knew was so kind and coy" The girl was coming onto him, but he was innocent.
"I was with a girl, but I felt like I was with a boy" His feelings for her were platonic.
And he held her in his arms, trying to be friendly and comforting, but he didn't actually sleep with her because "It wasn't you" you being his girlfriend.
"I would never kill the one thing that I love (etc.)" He doesn't want to hurt his girlfriend, even though he did cheat on her. He invokes God and his own naivete, trying to win his girlfriend over.

That's my theory, not saying it's right or you're wrong.

Violent Femmes – Blister in the Sun Lyrics 15 years ago
Pfft, while I find the masturbation theory amusing, I have a different interpretation of the song:

So, the narrator is really high, and even though he has a girlfriend he starts flirting with this gay guy ("I might start to check you out/ Big hands I know you're the one") who he meets on the street. When he comes down he starts having wet dreams about him, and he "doesn't know why", because he thinks he's straight- and his girlfriend is freaking out because she thinks her boyfriend is gay ("My girlfriend, she's at the end, she is starting to cry"). And "Let me go on, like I blister in the sun" is supposed to be him telling his girlfriend to give him some space, he's not turning gay on her (like how kids hate when their mom puts sunblock on them and tell her they won't get burned anyway).

Then again, my mind can make attach a homosexual connotation to just about ANYTHING.
