Elliott Smith – Between the Bars Lyrics 11 years ago
Part of the greatness of this song lies in the fact that it can be interpreted both ways: as alcohol addressing the singer, or the singer addressing a girl. I believe this is very intentional. The repeated and final line "I'll keep them still" could be read two ways. He could be telling his girl that he will help silence her ghosts (I'll keep them still for you) OR he could be saying his ghosts are "still" with him. That is, he could be responding to the narrator: no matter what you promise the ghost of my past self will "still" be with me. I'll keep them still.

The Hold Steady – We Can Get Together Lyrics 15 years ago
Oh come on people! "The Girl Who Lives on Heaven Hill" is a Husker Du song off of New Day Rising. "I come up to her cabin still" is a line from the song. "Makes No Sense at All" is a Husker Du song off of Flip Your Wig. Incidentally, Husker Du is Norwegian for "Do you remember."

This is a simple but great song about sitting around spinning vinyl and rocking out and talking about the music with friends. It's sung from the point of view of someone looking back later in life and realizing how that was heaven and things are not so simple now.

Yes, Heavenly is a band from Oxford. The drummer killed himself and the band dissolved. The lead singer was the drummer's older sister.
