Regardless of the literal meaning of what happened throughout this 'love story,' (who loved who, who mistreated who, etc.) the lyrical arrangement at the end of the song sums up the song's meaning. In my opinion, what do i gotta do what do i gotta do to keep you what do i gotta do to keep you from doing this to me At first she's saying 'What do I have to do to be happy?' Kind of like, 'Why cant I catch a break in life?' In the next line she realizes that she needs and wants whoever this 'You' is in order to be happy- to catch her break in life, so to speak. In the last line shes begging the One she needs to stop hurting her. The song sort of implies he may be hurting her due to scars of the past, his or her past, or possibly their past, that part is up for personal interpretation. Shes asking the One to stop the hurt and let the past go. By no means does she come across as begging out of desperation, the passion and pain in her voice makes it obvious that she's pleading because she has found and accepted that she really does Love and need him. She asking him to also accept it and move forward with her, leaving the pain in the past. She wants to feel again, seems he might want to too. |

I agree with Jarry but want to add a few things. Its obvious this guy knows everything about her including all of her imperfections and mood swings. Even in Nicki's moments of anger, temper tantrums (ex: throwing dishes) or breakdowns, he can see through it all. In this song Nicki sounds a wee bit frustrated by this, but ultimately shes saying she appreciates how well he know her. Speaking from a girls standpoint, I will agree, this is freaking maddening! While it may be rare and special to find someone who is so in tune to you, it really makes you vulnerable and exposed to your partner. In relationships like this, you will never have 'control' in arguments or tantrums. But imho, couples who are truly in love wouldn't want or need to have the power of manipulation on their partner. I can see how having a relationship like this would make One hesitant, especially when you've always used these 'antics' as means of personal protection and security. I suppose when Love is true you can see through all the BS and dont need these games. It seems that Nicki at first 'tried to fight it, back with defiance,' (her defense mechanism, possibly) but he ended up 'captur[ing] her soul.' And even though she doesn't have the upper-hand she is grateful for him, and that 'looking back it made me greater.' Makes a boat-load of sense to me! ;) |

Wanting so badly to get to know the person you Love. Yes, you can Love someone and not know everything about them. But you would gladly spend the rest of your life getting to know this person because you already Love everything about them...EVEN if you really don't know that much. Wanting so badly to shower the One you Love with all the Love in your entire being. Notice she never says WHAT she would give. In my opinion this is because when your heart wants something this bad, nothing Worldly can compare or equal the desires of the heart. That's how I take this song. It's pretty straight-forward and beautifully simple, yet it perfectly conveys the unwavering feelings in my heart....that I have NEVER felt before. Strange but amazing feeling. True Love?? I think so, yes. :) |

I'm not certain but I think some of these lyrics are a little off. 'She passed around again and had seat for sure' I don't think this line is correct, hard to tell. Regardless, still a beautiful song. Would really like to hear a 'produced/finished' version. |

This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I used to listen to it on repeat for hours at a time. Yeah, to me this song holds different meanings at different times in my life. Ultimately I see it as someone who is angry that the one they are in love with won't let anyone get close and ultimately the one that wants to show love (the nice guy) get left behind. |

It's chaotic, but passionate love. But, it's right. In my humble opinion, to be able to evoke those kinds of emotions in each other shows that they both care so much but are simply begging the other not to hurt them. Trying to break down the defenses to get to the good stuff, the pure, untainted stuff. |

I think this song is beautiful. I do not see it as a sad break-up song. I know Pink went through a divorce, but I see her as a strong independent woman. The first time I heard this song, and still now, it gives me hope. Makes me cry, but it's a cry that is brought on by a ton of emotions. Throwing glitter in the air...kindof like letting go of all the built up emotions. I think she's singing about how you can fully just trust that one person, the one you know is to be yours forever. Being half past the point of oblivion is being half past the point of no return, she is completely consumed by the one she wants to be with. Nothing is better than that moment. I also think the sugar part fits perfectly. Very sweet, and cute. ;) |

This song is amazing and full of, in my opinion, euphoria and pain. (sweet escape and poison) I see this song as Lzzy falling in love with someone she knew would pain her, but still cant get enough of the pain/euphoria that comes with the relationship. She gets high off of this person and wants to be consumed by the effect he has on her. Almost like she knows shes going to get hurt but can't stop or help the way she has become wholly consumed by the entire situation. Drink the wine, take your time, consume all of it. She knew she was getting 'drunk' from the beginning but then when the real emotions hit her, 'I don't wanna be saved, I don't wanna be simple' (DON'T THINK ITS SOBER) I think shes saying, fuck the rest and forget playing it safe, this is what I want/need. To me, this is one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard. Very sexy, dark, dangerous, and beautiful. All of this, and then some, wrapped up in a cute little cupcake that is...this song. Of course, it may just have everything to do with the fact that Shaun and Seether rock my world. I agree with lovesickened. |
