Blue Öyster Cult – Don't Fear The Reaper Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song is not, in fact, about suicide. Dharma himself said. I felt that I had just achieved some kind of resonance with the psychology of people when I came up with that, I was actually kind of appalled when I first realized that some people were seeing it as an advertisement for suicide or something that was not my intention at all. It is, like, not to be afraid of it (as opposed to actively bring it about). It's basically a love song where the love transcends the actual physical existence of the partners. The essence of the song is that life is best lived when you don't fear death. |
Blue Öyster Cult – Burnin' For You Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song is about hedonism, dying young, and the rock and roll lifestyle. There are many references both to death and to "the devil," which represents unchecked indulgence but never explicitly mentions drugs, booze or sex explicitly. For instance "burning," is very closely related to "burn out," which was first used, in the context of self destruction, by Niel Young two years before "Burnin' for you," was released when famously he wrote "It's better to burn out than to fade away," in his song "Hey hey, my my." Whereas "hey hey, my my," was melancholy and ironic, "Burnin' for you," is an affirmation of the fast living rock and roll lifestyle. References to the devil are not literal as much as they are symbolic of drugs, sex, booze, and fast cars. Things that are pleasurable but can kill you. In the context of the song "you," is the embodiment of unchecked impulsive indulgence personified by the devil i.e. "I am quickly dying because I do a lot of bad things to my body, but I don't care." The line "I'm livin' for givin' the devil his due," essentially means "I can't deny that sex, drugs, and rock and roll are bad for me, but they sure do feel good." The crux of the song is that the narrator is fully aware that he will die young but accepts it as payment for all the good times he will have while he is alive. |

Mumford & Sons – White Blank Page Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Wow, just Wow. Mumford & Sons is my new favorite band. They have gift for writing great lyrics. "But tell me now, where was my fault In loving you with all my heart." There is something that is so universal about the chorus. I think that there are some times that you wish you could go back and not love someone so much because you were hurt so badly but you have to take a step back and say to yourself "how could I have NOT loved him/her so much." Great band, great song, cant wait to hear more. I hope that they have great success. |
Mumford & Sons – Little Lion Man Lyrics | 14 years ago |
There are so so many things that I LOVE about this song. It is refreshing to actually be able to understand the lyrics that I am listening to. So many bands either mumble and wail or veil their song in so much mystery that it becomes meaningless. I think that this is a fairly straightforward song. Guy is in a relationship and he fucks it up because he is too weak. It also has the distinction of being a sad song that you can dance to. And, it is one of the few songs that I have heard where "Fuck," is completely natural and appropriate. Maybe the best new song that I have heard in the last five years. Cant wait to explore more of their music |
U2 – With or Without You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Wow, its a testament to the greatness of this song that it can be interpreted so many different ways. To me it epitomises that feeling after a relationship has ended and that sick feeling that you get knowing that you can never have him/her again. To me the key to the song are the lines: "Nothing to win and nothing left to lose," and "You give yourself away." Haven't we all been in a situation before when we want to show someone that we love them but are too afraid to put ourselves out there? Maybe it is that feeling after a breakup when you either steel yourself against the pain or resolve to win him/her back even though you know you will fail. Very poignant. I get all weepy just thinking about it. :) |
Marilyn Manson – Antichrist Superstar Lyrics | 14 years ago |
My word the gene pool has become so poor. Let me clear it up once and for all. Religious Zealots...It's a concept album...MM is no more the antichrist than David Bowie is a Starman from Mars. Few of MM's "followers," really believe that he is anything more than an entertaining shock rocker. In fact retards like you have mad him quite wealthy since there is no such thing as bad publicity. The fact that morons like you are still raving about this shit 10+ years after the fact is a testament to his geneius. I mean he is one ugly dude and he was fucking Rose McGowan! Damn! Overzealous MM fans...It's a concept album...He doesn't believe his own bullshit, he doesn't walk around with makeup and dog collars on unless he is onstage. It is nothing more than entertainment. It is the equivalent of Quentin Tarantino making wickedly entertaining movies that are devoid of meaning and substance. He just wants to entertain you, let him. Anyone who actually allows this music to affect their lives needs to walk themselves into traffic, pronto! All that said, awesome tune, awesome album and if you ever get a chance to see MM live dont miss it! Saw him on the Mechanical Animals tour back in 99, one of the best concerts I have ever seen. He is an entertainer on par with Kiss, Frank Sinatra, and Wayne Newton. |
