Friends near death, you gave respect. Sympathetic intellect. The friend Flea is referring to is John Frusciante. |

Great song! One of my favorites on this solid new 311 release. Both the music and the lyrics were written by Nick Hexum. It's very apparent it's an ode to ending self-destructive/self-medicating habits and overcoming anxiety and confusion associated with being young. In the end, clarity and peace are found. Some of my favorite lines that I can definitely apply to my personal life are "I would always have to do a double, a double cuz one just ain't enough Of all the liquor and enough of pharmaceuticals" and the entire verse pertaining to the battle with ones mind. "I got a mind full of weapons In the battle of me versus myself And everything that I kept in I'm finding the courage to tell The sweetest repose comes in the strangest of places I never supposed clarity would find me" Hopefully, someday, I can find some clarity and peace within my mind as Nick has. Great song! |

| I always thought it was a jab at Eric Avery, but what do I know. Great song either way. Strays is not classic Jane's, but it's a solid album for sure! | |
| John Frusciante – Blood on My Neck from Success Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This song was written and recorded just before John left the band in 1992. It's about John's hatred for Lindy - the manager of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and how Lindy's push for success was diminishing John's creativity. John has since said that he no longer has any hatred towards Lindy since rejoining the band. |
