I agree with slothfull. But there's an extra layer to the song (as with the rest of the songs on the album). Albarn made a statement about how society regards plastic as something not of earthly origin and is therefore something bad, when in fact plastic does come from nature and snakes have been known to enjoy the warmth a grocery sack can generate. Yes, the main theme of the album is about manufactured and "fake" things, but the bigger question is why are they made in the first place and why do we as humans find comfort in them? Many songs deal with lovers confronting each other over a lie that has been told, I think Albarn is asking where does the lie come from? What does lying hope to achieve? What are the intentions of the lover's lie? Even though it isn't true, it comes from the lover's need to not hurt the other's feelings or to gain their approval. |
