just a thought..could the bird be a reference to her conscious. she feels guilty about something and just cant forget about it and instead feels guiltier("But he sang louder and Louder inside the house And now I couldn't get him out.")

a swan song is a common metaphor for a final act or farewell..so think about it. by her singing that she wrote the words to the swan song means she is the one who said goodbye to the guy and ended the relationship. at the time she really did want to end it ("i said what i said and i meant it") but now she regrets it. |
