One Voice – Always On My Mind Lyrics 14 years ago
This reminds me of high school. I suppose listening to it now reminds me of the optimism I had when I was in my teens.

This comment cracked me up. Obviously, I'd hate you to not listen to Daft Punk, but I think everyone here understands your comment.

Toad the Wet Sprocket – Pray Your Gods Lyrics 15 years ago
Is this song really about Jesus and Christianity? I've interpretted it to mean the mortality and how short a time we have to love.

A lot of the imagery seems to allude to the Hellenic world. I'm just going to give my interpretation based on the four "stanzas."

The first stanza seems to say that singer will give his lover his secrets, but she is the one to sacrifice, so come in peace (olive arms across my breast is like the olive branch symbol). The last line asks the lover to be free, singing poems and freeing butterflies. Butterflies were seen as the souls of people who had died (momento mori).

The second stanza depicts the singer as one choice and the gods (world) as the other. You can give yourself to the negativity of this world and to the jealous gods, but the singer is the other choice. The singer is not angry and jealous, but the singer is a mortal, someone who is vulnerable. So he implores her to make the choice quickly.

The third Stanza explains that the singer has been in this situation before or has seen people turn to negativity and the singer's time grows shorter as his body weakens as time marches on. Humans are motivated by one of two things: Desire to have and Fear of loss. In this song, fear (much like the album name) is the motivating emotion. Do people turn to the alternative of the singer, the gods, because they fear of losing their life to death or fear of losing any joy to this life?

The last stanza makes wraps it up by saying the singer is not fear. The singer is there, alive and well for now. The gods will overpower you with fear, but the singer will not, although the singer is the one making the ultimatum. The singer wants his lover to choose him.

Most don't live life, they survive life.

Great line. I dig your interpretation although I don't agree with it. Well thought out!
