La Dispute – Future Wars Lyrics 13 years ago
I absolutely love this song. I think the deeper meaning in it, (which maybe mines different then yours, but I’d love to hear if anyone has anything different) that a relationship was ruined by impurity. That maybe they weren’t quite mature enough to handle a physical relationship, he destroyed her and she forgave him but refused to take him back. I think he’s saying they were young, had sex(or some kind of intense physical thing going) and out of all the things that would destroy their relationship it would be the physical; I think he knew that it could happen, and he kept his fingers crossed and hoped for the best… but it slowly ate at him, and destroyed her, and he let it; not out of aggression or any negative emotion towards her, but maybe a bit for his own pleasure, he wanted all of her.. and didn’t really stop to think what it would do. So eventually she put herself back together and fixed things for herself, but wont take him back. I love the line “what a bunch of fools we lovers are, when tempted by the taste of flesh” because its so true. We are so overwhelmed by our bodies that its hard to control ourselves long enough to realize (or care) how things will affect us. The last lines, I think its some outside force (maybe God, or any amount of evil) basically laughing in his face how he failed, how he was ignorant to realize, that he stole her virginity(making him a thief and a whore) but appearing so good. Those are just my thoughts on the song though.. I’d love to hear someone else’s interpretations!

La Dispute – Twelve Lyrics 13 years ago
This song speaks the most to me right now… I just want to share my view on it, if anyone can relate awesome, if not, well idk. Its easy to relate to this song because everyone has been left by someone; maybe some more that others, but someone has left us all. I think the main meaning he’s trying to get across is just the lack of commitment of humans. How everyones gone by the winter (when we need them most) and everyone comes around for summer flings, when there is little stress, nothing feels absolute, the days feel endless, life is good. But things get boring when everything’s going good, which could refer to a lot of problems (maybe cheating or finding someone else when routeine gets boring) and it all kinda crumbles, everyones so afraid of getting hurt, but not afraid of doing the damage, no one wants to fix themselves, or blame themselves. And in the last verse he’s making the point more clear by giving an example of someone who was hurt by that, and drowned himself in alcohol and cigarettes to dull the pain, (keeping maybe a little anger and pride, or maybe the opposite maybe he’s depressed and just awfully sad) telling himself that one day hes going to be okay. And the last line is the first line… someone carry me away.

La Dispute – Bury Your Flames Lyrics 13 years ago
This has to be one of my favorite La Dispute songs. Its obviously talking about a relationship, that was based off alcohol, physical contact, and his strong attraction towards her, but she used him. I think its about his realization of how badly she had him whipped. “you’ve got your fingers snared in my veins I think its time you bulled them out, and I don’t care about the flesh it’ll tear it isn’t flesh that I’m worried about” makes that apparent, and the fact that he just wants separation, a clean break if you will, even though he knows its gonna hurt. And again she tries to come back to him, bringing drama of all of the other guys she’s got hooked. “you came back and you brought floods, wearing a necklace made of hearts that you dragged through the mud, and I guess I wasn’t quite sure what to say to you, but then I saw mine almost reached out to grab it, said, darling you’re the only one on earth I want to have it, but now I’m not so sure that was true, after the hell you put it through” so after going through it again he realized how he means just as much to her as every other heart on that necklace. And at the end I think he’s expressing his anger at all the time he wasted on her; but what is most frustrating to him, is just as he thinks he’s moved on, and he’s over it, there she is again, his passion for her refuses to die or be put out, and he’s exhausted by this.
